I agree but whenever I think of these deals I imagine the player agreeing to an extension
So the Jets allow one of their players (Trouba) to negotiate with the Leafs, and a number of other teams a new contract. So now Trouba, goes a Jets, I have possible contract extension with the Leafs,,,,,Great. Now the Leafs low ball the Jets in contract negotiations, Jets refuse the deal and now Trouba has to return to a team, the Jets would don't want him. But the Leafs and Trouba, might have sort of nutch, nutch, wink, wink deal for when he a UFA. These sign and trade are rarely done, because of the logistics in trying to get deal done.. Look at the open deal Karlsson had to make a deal this summer. No deal done. There are 90 upcoming UFA every season, we don't see "sign and trades" for a reason. Trouba is no different. And really, Trouba has shown his cards for years, he wants to be a UFA as soon as possible, not to sign a long term deal.
