I don't see the how this makes the Pens better or why Buffalo would consider that deal.
Kessel is better than Pacioretty, and on his current deal would be cheaper 2019/20-2021/22 seasons.
I get that the Pens are getting some nice pieces in return for Kessel, but they aren't going to do much to help the Pens this year and definitely won't help offset the loss of Maatta this year or going forward.
From Buffalo's perspective they are clearly looking to rebuild long term so trading a top young prospect, another solid young player and a 1st just doesn't makes sense. They aren't in the win now mode, and even a guy like Pominville is probably a guy they hope rebounds some that they can flip for a decent return at the deadline.
