Description
NYI suffer through a terrible 18-19 campaign to allow Lou and Trotz to evaluate the team and talent pool.

With the #1 OA pick in site the Isles deal Eberle, Lee and Nelson for picks and make some key UFA signings to retool.

Prior to start of the 2020-21 season, NYI makes deal with SEA expansion team to take Ladd of the books.

Pass on Lee, he would be a great pick up but Avs are not there yet to be sending out 3 draft picks for a pending UFA.

While the values on these deals are not bad at all, I would argue a lot of the logic is missing.

it's highly unlikely Montreal would be buying at the deadline (no offense Habs fans).
Washington could just sign any of the retread goalies that float in FA year to year.
Why are the Islanders giving up a 1st and 3rd to move Ladd when their cap is flush in your post?
Colorado would likely not be a buyer for Lee, their still a bit away before the "final piece" move.
The Eberle deal is the only one that makes sense.

Finally, how are you convincing Duchene, Panarin & Bob (not one, but all three??) to sign for a team that you pointed out had a horrid 2018-19?

I think this is the third one I've seen that sends Nelson to Montreal. That's not who would be buying at the deadline.

You're right it may not be Montreal, but it could be any team looking for a Center come the deadline really. I used Montreal because they have already been linked to Nelson.
Same goes for the Lee trade... Could be any team looking to upgrade scoring and LW at the deadline.
Ladd deal - We may be flush with cash between now and the end of the 19-20 season, but starting in 20-21 we have to deal out a huge contract to Barzal and will also have to resign Pulock as well. That's approximately 15m for those two if they keep progressing as they are.

As for the convincing part, it may be difficult to do... Duchene and Panarin have already been linked to the Isles. Hopefully the promise of a new arena (and full seasons at the Coliseum until then) and playing with an elite talent like Barzal may convince them.

Bobrovsky is the only I'm not sold on, but we need Goaltending and NYI could give him the chance to be a starter if CBJ doesn't resign him.

No, I did not. Hughes is purely speculation and hope. I don't necessarily think the Isles will be #1 overall bad, but everyone is predicting them to be terrible after losing Tavares and if you add in losing Lee, Eberle and Nelson at the deadline #1 overall is a possibility. Could always take out Hughes and slide Bellows to C and put Dal Colle on the LW of that line.

agree with all but the Ladd thing, Barzal and Pulock are coming up in 20/21 for big contracts, assuming they continue to be very good. Isles need to move as many bad contract as they can (thanks garth you fat d ick) to make room for those two.

They would both definitely be trade chips to contenders, but they'd have to be realistic contenders. Picks from the Canadians are quite different than picks from say Vegas etc.

I think Ladd can be addressed when you are ready to start handing out money. This makes a buyout or a trade where you have to give up assets (eat contract) more doable because of one less year on his deal. The longer you can delay, the better. The Rangers for example are going to sit on Marc Staal until they really need the money, making a buyout or trade/eat salary look like chump change compared to doing it now.

I still don't see Duchene and Panarin being attracted to the Islanders, Barzel aside.. Sure you need a center, but that doesn't link Duchene to the Islanders...its not like he has voiced some interest. And the Arena issues are far far from resolved. There is still no guarantee of an arena at Belmont, they haven't even moved a pebble from the parking lot. And the Colosseum just doesn't have the seats needed long term. That means the Barclay center is still part of the picture, yuck!

Also, the Islanders have two amazing goalie prospects, why not just find a bridge goalie and let the two kids develop until one is ready to take over? That 8m for 7 years (sheesh) for Bob becomes way more useful fixing your proposed cap issues. Problem solved!

You make valid points, but there are some holes in your rationale.

            - The Ladd move - Happens at the expansion draft for SEA, which right now is set to start playing in the 20-21 season - So the deal is made for SEA to chose Ladd over some other players that may be left available AND to clear out CAP space. I only included in my 19-20 roster to show his salary off the books and that there is room for Barzal and Pulock extensions.

            - Duchene has been linked to the Islanders - they have expressed interested in trading for him (they have been interested since his COL days) and I've read he would be interested in signing an extension (may or may not be true)

            - Same for Panarin - Isles have been linked via trade AND Panarin has already said his preferred destinations for FA are NY and FL meaning Isles would have just as much chance as the NYR, Panthers or Lightning (given their CAP issues and pursuit of Karlsson)

            - As for the arena - this is a misconception - the arena at Belmont IS happening, it's just a matter of will it be open in time for the 20-21 season or not. The Isles have said so, Nassau County has said so, the NHL has said so - Plus, from what has been said they are on track to break ground there early in 2019.

            - Also, the Isles just made a deal where if Belmont isn't ready to open in 20-21 they have 2 years at the Coliseum to hold them over. Barclays is going to become irrelevant for the Isles - They have already added more games at the Coliseum for next season and chances are by 19-20 they will be back there full time until Belmont is ready. While the NVMC no longer has the seating capacity it use to, they aren't even selling tickets in Barclays to match what seating the Coliseum does have and any Isles fan knows WHEN they move back to the Coliseum that place will be sold out EVERY game.

            - Why on earth would the NHL agree to let the Isles move back to the Coliseum (which is no longer hockey viable long term) without knowing a new arena is guarantee in a few years??

            - Yes, the Islanders have 2 of the top 10 goalie prospects but only one of them is a guarantee to ever play for the Isles (Soderstrom) and he is a year or two (at least) away still. There is no indication Sorokin is willing to leave the KHL for the NHL/AHL so until that happens, there is no banking on him being the savior for the Isles. And yes, a bridge goalie would be ideal, but when an elite starting goalie becomes available you take that over a prospect any day.

I got you, I just don't really agree. That is a steep price to pay in order to move a contract that you can deal with in lots of other ways...that was my point. The Islanders aren't likely to be contending for cups in 20-21, Ladd can just as easily be bought out, the last 3 years won't cost much...certainly not anything equal to the value of a lottery pick.

            - Duchene has been linked to the Islanders - they have expressed interested in trading for him (they have been interested since his COL days) and I've read he would be interested in signing an extension (may or may not be true)

I hate to say this, because Rangers fans are guilty of the same thing, but I am gonna say it anyway. The media talking about a player isn't the same thing as the player being linked to a team. Of course Panarin is going to mention NY as one of his destinations, that is a tried and true method of driving the price up! Both he and Duchene are going to be driving the bus on where they land. I'd love them on the Rangers too, but I have no reason to believe that is more likely to happen than them singing with half the other teams in the NHL. Throw into that the state of both teams right now, and I don't see how you can say that with much confidence beyond vague speculation. Sure, Duchene fits the Islanders needs, Panarin would be awesome in the Garden...why would they come to rebuilding teams in favor of going somewhere they can win? It's not like they will lack choices.

My friend, I live on Long Island. There's a car in the parking lot of Belmont with the Islanders logo on it...that's it! I remember when all the talk about Wang building a new arena where the Colosseum is was going around, it sounded like this super sure thing too...nothing happened! Until you have some form of standing structure to show off to an incoming free agent, the Islanders arena situation is a problem, that was my point (PS, for all it's warts, the Colosseum was a fun place for to watch a hockey game).

            - Why on earth would the NHL agree to let the Isles move back to the Coliseum (which is no longer hockey viable long term) without knowing a new arena is guarantee in a few years??

The answer to this question says nothing about Belmont, and everything about the Barclay center, so it really doesn't prove much. The Islanders average roughly 12,000 a night in the Barclay center, the Coliseum seats 13,000! lol...oh and not to mention this: https://nypost.com/2017/01/30/barclays-center-wants-islanders-gone/

In your post you referred to upcoming issues signing your kids as a reason to move Ladd for valuable picks, and yet you want to forget about grooming Soderstrom and give up on Sorokin coming over in favor of giving 8 mill for 7 years to a 29 year old goalie? I am confused on this. If the Islanders don't have any confidence they can convince a kid like Sorokin to cross the pond and join the rest of the Islanders' kids, how would they convince a 29 year old goalie well within his prime to sign with a rebuilding team? If this is really true, then Soderstrom is your goalie of the future, and the Islanders should trade Sorokin.
