2 solid prospects (1 that will start in the NHL, 1 that could split time between the league) and a cap dump for 1 solid prospect, an NHLer, and a cap dump. Doesn’t seem that unfair

Ladd is signed for 5 more years and is a 4th liner at this point, Andy Greene isn't my favorite but he will play top 4 minutes on the left side and is only signed for 2 more years. They have no way to replace him this year after already letting John Moore go. Ho Sang is beyond unproven and Vande Sompel isn't a coveted prospect. Johansson is necessary for the top 6 this year and for the PP so the devils get much worse in this trade.

The Devils are more likely to do this than the fan base would. Ho Sang is a better prospect than Quenneville, Vande Sompel is a young LHD with offensive potential, and Greene is a buyout candidate. Yeah, we lose on the MoJo/Ladd part, but as a Devils fan, I like this.

We lose a top 6 forward and a top 2 (in terms of minutes) D man. How is Greene a buyout candidate? Who is taking his place in the next two years? I don't love his current play at all but they arent buying him out this year and they just let John Moore walk so in what scenario is he getting bought out with one year left seeing that he won't be bought out for this year. We just drafted an undersized LHD with more potential than Vande Sompel and have Mueller and Butcher on the left side as other young LHD so we actually need a veteran type LHD instead. Ladd's contract is horrendous there is no way they take that on for someone like Ho Sang who is far from proven to be able to handle being an NHL player.

They don’t have LHD prospects as you said and Vande Somple isn’t coveted by you, but did pretty well last year and turned some heads. If Ho-Sang was proven they wouldn’t be trading him for Johansson. He had 12 pts in 22 games last year, a better pace than Johansson. NJD would be better off with Vande Somple in their top 6 than Greene. Also Ladd has better stats than you think

Ladd has similar stats to Blake Coleman who they just siged for 1/3 of his money. Johansson had 2 consussions last year but overall has been a top 6 type player his whole career so I wouldn't be equating Josh Ho sangs 22 games to that. Ho sang is a playmaker but he makes many bonehead mistakes and is a liability in the d zone. They Have LHD prospects but they need someone like Andy Greene right now to eat minutes. It makes no sense to have a playoff team have 3 unproven players in their top LHD spots and thats where they would be. Vande Sompel can be a solid NHL defenseman but he is not proven and they would be taking a big step backwards during a year where they should be aiming higher so that Hall resigns longterm (you should know a lot about this concern) instead of making a move that is an immediate big step back.

2 concussions I’m sure that won’t affect his career

LHD as in left side as in Mirco Mueller and Will Butcher, both of which are unproven in playing top 4 minutes but would be the top 2 LHD.

The only cap dump in that deal is Ladd. Johansson is good player but got injured last year and Andy Greene is there captain and one of the better dmen in NJ. Quenneville is as much a good prospect as Ho-Sang is but without the character that teams tend to get away from. Vande Sompel is decent but nothing to write home for.

I don't see NJ doing this deal either.

He looked good when he came back and trading him right now makes no sense. Just like trading Ho sang right now when his value is as low as its ever been makes no sense.

Greene was slowing down last year, I see him being much more of a hinderance this year

Still 2nd on the team in ice time over guys like Severson, Moore, etc. He's a decently fast skater so he can still keep up. Regardless, he's still effective and NJ wants to keep him. NYI would drop Ladd for zero return at the drop of a hat if they could. All he does is play 3-4th line minutes at the cost of top line player. Oh and he's a winger which is easily replaceable.

If Im NJ, I don't make this trade at all. It doesn't make us better.

Yeah he had a lot of ice time last year, so what. Everywhere I’ve read has said other wise when it comes to Greene keeping up. Doesn’t matter, don’t really want Johansson anymore

I mean the coach usually plays people more minutes if they play better than others.....that's the importance... He's no Doughty but they aren't itching to move this guy is my point.
