Carolina, Vegas, Jersey, Colorado, Dallas, Columbus, there's plenty of teams that can take on assets for Callahan. I'm fairly sure a 2nd round pick would be more than enough for most.

And any GM that would take on an aging player like Cally with a history of injuries, who will be lucky to play 50 games per year for the next two years and cost $11.6 million for 2 year, for just a 2nd round pick.....needs to find another profession, because he would be nutz.

Arizona just took on 3 years of Hossa, if you have the cap space you take it for whatever assets the team wants to pay. If you're gm of Arizona or Carolina or whatever and don't take two years of Callahan that's a more fireable offence imo

And what is Arizona's track record for winning and losing in this league? If you base what you will do off of what their GM does, you better get use to losing. Anyone that would be willing to take on $11.8 million in cap over 2 years for a 4th line player who make play 50% to 60% of games the next two years for a 2nd round pick is out of their mind. IMO anyway.

PLus Hossa's salary is $1 million per year each year of that contract because it was front loaded, so they only have to pay him $3 million total. BIG difference than $11.8 for Cally.

Callahan makes 4.7 each of the last two years. Sure thats a lot of money, but if I were a billionaire I'd buy draft picks for that. No, of course you can argue from the winning stand point, but thats also selection bias, cause what team competing for the cup is sitting around the cap floor? Again - if you're Buffalo or Carolina for example, you're not paying Dahlin or Svechnikov for another two years regardless, might aswell add a pick to that team.

Ideally of course you want to compete while your best players are on their elc's, but that tells me more about the incompetence of GMs etc. Am I, as a GM, dumber for taking on assets for the Callahan contracts last two years, than whoever wrote that contract and has been sitting on it for that amount of time? Tampa's still competing while fitting him in, cause they have a bunch of cheap contracts, if you're not ready for the SCF in a year or two, why not get assets for it?

What you're saying is a 2nd round draft pick is enough of an "asset" to eat Cally's contract, and that is simply crazy for any team to do, under any circumstance. You want a team to take Cally's crazy contract off your hands so you can sign Karlsson, then you truly have to give up some assets......like a Cal Foote plus a draft pick or else....keep Cally and forget Karlsson and take your chances as is. The Rangers aren't TB's bank......you want them to eat your mistake contracts you got to pay in real assets....not just a 2nd round pick, which is more like a 3rd rounder based on where the pick falls. No way, no how does any team go for that.

Because they're not using the cap space for anything else. Apparently I can't make you understand, but teams do this all the time, usually its a 3rd or a 5th or whatever. For Datsyuk they moved up in the first round of the draft, but that was for 7.5. A 2nd and a 4th then? Even a first rounder. But someones going to accept that way before of Foote is on the table, I assure you.

You are out of your mind. Teams will use cap space TO GET BETTER by getting something for it...…..taking on a $5.8 million dollar cap hit for 2 years for a 4TH LINE PLAYER WITH A HISTORY OF INJURIES INCLUDING RECENT SHOULDER SURGURY will take more than just a late 2nd round draft pick...…..APPRAENTLY YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT. When you find a ******** GM to take Cally for a 2nd round pick....let me know.

Vegas took on Stoner, Clarkson, etc and went to the cup finals. If you want to disqualify Arziona based on not winning I can't wait to see what your argument for why Vegas made the wrong move is. They gained a bunch of assets in both of those trades, and are still nowhere near the cap ceiling

OK....so what are the "bunch of assets" you want to give the Rangers for taking Cally? A late 2nd round pick is now a "bunch of assets"? I will bet you any amount of money NO TEAM takes Cally for a 2nd round pick. You can have every team in the league...…...how about that?
