If the Leafs were to get Brett Pesce, Gardiner certainly will not be part of the package. I say that because Carolina has Slavvin, De Haan, Fleury and Bean on the left, adding Gardiner would not make much sense, especially considering how they would like to add more scoring up front by trading one of their D (Faulk seems to be the one mentioned most frequently). I do agree that they could trade Pesce however, as they have Hamilton, Faulk and TVR on the right, but the package has to be right. Leivo could definitely be apart of that, but it would also take another body and a pick most likely. Other than that I like your team (I saw part two as well).

Nylander is worth more than that, though. And I'm not sure why the Hurricanes accept that trade, since they don't need Gardiner as much as they need a legitimate top center (Leivo isn't one of them, and he doesn't have anywhere near as much value as Leaf fans seem to assume). Kadri, Sparks, and a pick would probably be what the Hurricanes are going to ask for. That still works with the cap and improves your defense (you might be able to add a pick or a prospect from Carolina going to Toronto if that's an overpayment, though), but it doesn't work with the cap when Nylander is asking for more than that. You can probably make some trades to get the little bit of extra cap space you would need, but not without losing one of your depth players. Overall, the team remains a solid team that can contend for a Cup, but it's not going to be the team people seem to want, where one of Matthews, Tavares, or Kadri is on the ice for like 50 minutes per game.

This is probably the most realistic proposal I have heard. Kadri is a solid second line center (who could play 1st line if need be). He can score 30 goals, and he can shut down other teams top lines and get under their skin. At a cap hit of 4.5M for 4 more years, he is a very valuable asset, one I am sure the Canes would love.

This works for the Leafs as well, as they would love to keep their core-four, and Kadri may be under-utilized on the third line. Sparks value may never be higher, as he is unproven at the NHL level, but came off an excellent season for the Marlies, and the Canes need some help in net (not convinced that Mrazek is the solution over there). As for the pick, I would imagine it wouldn't be a high pick (if any), but maybe in the 5th - 7th round range.

I would absolutely do this deal, we get a right shot defenseman locked at a reasonable cap hit, while keeping our top six together. Great post.
