I don't think it makes sense for Buffalo to pay to take on Bobby Ryan's contract. They need to prove they are ready to compete by the end of Dahlin's ELC, which is 3 years from now; otherwise this whole rebuild period has been more or less a waste. By that point, Ryan will still be on the books. He doesn't have a positive value, and that's why the Karlsson trade is so nuanced when Ryan is included, and why many people hope the Sens just sell Karlsson by himself. You'd get a significantly better return by just selling Karlsson because no one wants Bobby Ryan's contract. You have to pay someone to take it, they won't pay you to eat that deal for that player.
