Trading Brassard doesn't make sense, especially to a non-playoff team.

Penguins, a cap strapped team have him for cheap for just one season. This allows them to play a top 6 center on the third line. He was also quite good there towards the end of the season before his groin injury.

Removing him forces Riley Sheahan, who is a fourth line center, into the third spot. He produces like a fourth line guy and is not good enough to be a third line center on a cup team. Matt Cullen is also 41 and coming off a down year. Ideally, he is not full time center on this team. Left wing on the forth line with penalty killing duties is more ideal.

Brassard is only signed for one season. What use does Montreal have for him? They aren't a playoff team. A huge part of the appeal of Brassard right now is his small cap hit. That doesn't help the Habs either.

Also, this is giving up a lot for just a one year rental of Pacioretty, without Montreal even retaining salary. The team currently as all top four defensemen locked up for the next few years. Shipping off Maatta, whose contract is becoming better each year as he improves as a player is probably ill-advised.

if they want that much simply just say no, the pens don't desperately need him that they need to vastly overpay

montreal fans way over value Patches. They act like he's Conner McDavid. He's not. He also doesn't want to be in town. Their best bet to find a home for him is boston, or tampa bay. But I don't think either one of those teams want to give much up for him. It's kind of the situation they are in. You have 2 other wingers in Panarin and Skinner who could be had and not many teams looking. They penguins are fine without him. He would be a nice addition but they aren't going to destroy their roaster for him.

Not sure if I agree with this trade... However, I know for sure I don't agree with what you just said...

1. Riley Sheahan played extremely well with Kessel on the third line and had a better rating then Brassard. Saying hes a fourth liner is definitely a *pre penguins comment*

2. Matt Cullen is Definitely a "full time center" Guy had more points then our entire 4th line all year (Rowney, dea/Zar, reaves) And has one of the most consistent 50%+ faceoff percentages in the league.

3. Maatta has not gotten better defensively. Still slow. Works well in our own end but will get burned in any race. COSTLY!

4. Victor Mete will be ALREADY a better defenceman than maatta.

pens are set at wing no need to overpay for patches or skinner.

"Riley Sheahan played extremely well with Kessel on the third line and had a better rating then Brassard. Saying hes a fourth liner is definitely a *pre penguins comment*" this is wrong kessel looked bad with sheahan there styles of play don't mesh well at all.

"Matt Cullen is Definitely a "full time center" Guy had more points then our entire 4th line all year (Rowney, dea/Zar, reaves) And has one of the most consistent 50%+ faceoff percentages in the league." I love that we brought Cullen back, I believe he will play awesome for us. Lets not forget he is over 40 remember and might not hold up as a center all year. I think he will be best used as a face off guy in certain situations and a pk guy the rest of the time I think the lw on the 4th line with sheahan is his best spot.

As for Maatta he has improved on defense a lot he still is not a shut down guy but is a very capable 4th d man. He stays healthy again this year and continues to improve he will be the pens second best d man. you say costly mistakes look at letang and he is one of the pens best skaters.

HELL NO TO THE TRADE ANY WAY.

despite what Montreal fans think patches value is not much more than Brassard both ufa after this year brassard plays center that helps his value.
mete played sheltered minutes last year will be a good puck moving defense men who will be very good when his d improves and size and strength increases. so right now maatta >> Mete
so a 1st and 3th and good prospect for a 4th makes no sense
