Thank you for giving a valid reason and not just yelling. This site has a bunch of people who do that and ruin the site.

The Penguins don't need Jeff skinner because they aren't going to trade a good player like Rust who is on a good cap hit for the next 3 years for a rental player who they can't afford to pay next year.

If the penguins traded for Skinner, they would only trade Hagelin or Brass for him. Carolina would have to swallow some of the cap space, and they wouldn't be getting much else in return as we really don't see a huge value difference between the two to warrant it being a 1st round pick, good prospect or whatever for a 1 year contract on a guy who won't be offered a contract at the end due to cap reasons.
