Description
Ducks add a scoring winger with a physical presence and get Kesler's replacement.

The trade with Colorado gives them a two way forward who can score. A young RHD who is NHL ready, and RFA forward who needs a change of scenery and second round draft pick. Value might be off a little bit but it can be adjusted

BM doesn't like having his young kids in the NHL for their first year. Usually they stay in the AHL their first year and go from there. Could he make the roster, absolutely. Will he, I don't think he will and he will get more playing time in the AHL. Same goes for Terry, he will most likely stay in the AHL for the year unless he really impresses during camp.

What lines look off?

I think if the ducks want to add another big winger it should be Simmonds and I don’t like that stastny signing. Stastny handcuffs the ducks next season when kesler would be back. I do agree that BM likes to keep his youngsters in the AHL and think only one of Terry and Steel make the roster outta camp. It’ll be hard for the ducks to compete for a cup this year if Kesler is out. IMO with kesler healthy their biggest need is a top 6 LW and I’d argue that for them to be serious cup contenders a D to play with fowler is up there too. If kesler isn’t healthy that just adds another spot that has to be filled on a limited budget.

Not sold on trading for simmonds who will be 30. Landeskog will be 26 and is a little bit better player who brings in leadership plus we love the Swedes. I also wouldn't be opposed to trading for Skinner either. The addition of Landeskog or Skinner fills that top 6 need.

I think Kesler is done for his career that injury is more significant than anyone thought and RC played him way too much down the stretch. With that being said LTIR him and sign Stastny to take his place for the next 3 years. Allows Steel and Terry to mature and be on the big club as well in the next few seasons.

All this depends on if Kesler can play again. I'm thinking he's done but if he does play this year, then signing Stastny would be irrelevant and you leave that spot open for someone like Steel who could impress out of camp.

I’d like skinner too but that’ll probly take a lot. Simmonds brings leadership and grit too. I just don’t theink they need another power forward.

Kesler will play again it’s just a matter of at what level. He’s a tough SOB and won’t wanna go out like that. I mean Eaves is coming back from his syndrome. Kesler will be back at some point too.

I’d like to see steel make it and play top 9 min and pp2 but probly on the wing to start the season then ease him into the middle.

I wonder what the asking price would be for him. BM is in the spot of does he go for a cup with 3 years left go Getzy and Perry or does he go small rebuild and load up on younger talent.

you are probably right. Just hard to see Kesler do more damage to himself in the future that is all.

I would love to see steel make it. IF he and Terry both make it. I don't think signing anyone would be a good thing other than a vet D who can play bottom pair mins.

If it’s a deal around silf probly have to think about doing it. They’re both on expiring deals but Skinner scores more and Kase could take a top 6 role.

The one blessing that might come from kesler being out is that maybe RC doesn’t hard match every game and cogs (love the guy) moves down to the 4th line. He just doesn’t have the skill to be playing top 6 minutes every night.

I’ve wondered if there could be a deal of Ritchie and a pick for Josh Ho-Sang. If that happened could maybe go for a stop gap like a Riley Nash or Derek Ryan at 3C and have lines of Rakell-Getz-Eaves, Skinner-Henrique-Kase, Steel-Ryan/Nash-HoSang, Cogs-Grant-Brown.

Eaves won't be. He is expected to be ready for opening night. There have been videos of him back in the weight room and skating a little bit, courtesy of Hampus Lindholm.

Perry will only be productive being on Getzlaf's wing. He doesn't have the speed to play with Steel or Henrique. Cogs isn't going to play with Henrique, he can't score a goal to save his life and Henrique would slide into the second center position with Rakell and landy on his wings, depending on what trades happen. Eaves-Getzy-Perry played great beforehand. You move Raks away from playing with getzy and now teams have to worry about 2 lines instead of 1.

I wish RC would stop the matching game. Just play a style and stick with it. Vegas did that and they kept winning because they didn't match lines and the top guys controlled the play against the other teams top line.

I agree with you on Cogs. Great on the PK and everything but he can't score and should be used more as a 4th line player if Kesler is out. It would allow RC to roll 4 lines and not 3 the entire game.

Wait....what did you do with Perry? lol
