Julien and Bergevin are still convinced that Drouin's a center. Bergevin probably made this move to acquire the "top center" the Habs have been looking for, also why I drafted Zadina (Top 3 Pick) and not Kotkaniemi (Not Top 10 Pick).

The Habs don't have much of a choice, they could sign him for 1 year for about 7 Million or for 2 years at 5.75 Million. They don't want to get tangled up in a monster contract, but they still want to stay in some contention. Stastny would probably rather go to a top team for a bit less, but the Habs are a desperate team and want to use 7 Million rather than put it to waste.
