Description
No, the team isn't buying out Big E or Kron, or Daley for that matter. But there is plenty of moving that could be done. Heck, Holland got 3 picks for Tatar at $5mm/year, and he could barely crack the lineup!

Trade with Washington for Orpik so they can resign Carlson. It allows DRW to jump up just a little in the draft. DRW also gets a trade deadline asset they could move.

Edmonton needs speed (which Nyquist has plenty of), especially on the wings for McDavid and Draisaitl. They need to make the playoffs this year, no question about it. Detroit gets another high 2nd round pick for a piece they weren't going to resign. And they do it at the draft before the NTC kicks in.

I think you have some valid points here. Calling Orpik and asset is probably not accurate, I dont see him getting moved at the deadline as a player teams would be seeking out. But overall, your thoughts here work. I even think Washington would send Orpik and 1st round pick for a 3rd round straight up. They want to move him to keep Carlsson. Another bad year for the Wings, but they drop $15M in 3 bad contracts after this year.

Your Nyquist trade is a little questionable though. I dont know that the Oilers is where he fits. They have alot of big contracts. Speedwise, he is slowing down. I think Edmonton would be more interesting in a Glendening or AA.

You are either giving up to much to Washington or not getting enough. Think you are on to something with Washington and getting Orpik. I wouldn’t hate it but I think the Red Wings would have to get rid of another veteran if bringing in Orpik.

I like it except maybe swap Abby and Ras (if he's ready.) I think that KH could trade Ouellett for a draft pick, albeit a low one. I also think that Jensen should go the same route and KH should look at UFA John Moore from NJD. He's not going to collect a boat load of points but he's good in his own end and young still and will fit in with a rebuild. Also Hanifin is on the block (or so I read.)

I setup the lines with Abs and Ras for 2 reasons: 1) I think Nielsen is a good center to start those guys on (both Ras and Svech). He is responsible defensively, and they won't be playing against "top" competition (even with Hank slowing down, teams did still have to plan somewhat for him), and 2) Hank and Abs seem to play well together, there is a comfort in their game. Abs can do the dirty work and hopefully keep the wear off Hank for another season. I think by the end of the season (if DRW has the season we expect them to have), it wouldn't shock me to see Ras working in at C on the 2nd line, with Hank on the LW, and AA and Bert swapping lines.

For the Nyquist deal, he has 1 year left so it limits the effect on the contract issues with Edmonton, especially if the cap goes to $80mm. He's also only 28, and while he isn't as fast as AA or Larkin, have you seen Edmonton? Outside of McDavid, I think all of us are faster than the rest of the team. There team speed was awful, and their losing started when the league figured out that the only one with any speed was McDavid. Nyq is going to get moved, either at the draft, or at the deadline (though, if by some miracle they are in the playoff hunt, I don't think they'll trade him at all, and just save the cap hit).
