Colorado is not trading back Ottawa's first, it will either be the 4th this year or potentially higher next year. Karlsson is getting traded and Ottawa will be the worst team in the NHL next year. If I was Ottawa, I'd give them this year's first cause next year they could get #1.

I am completely serious, with the drama surrounding Ottawa they aren't going to be better next year. Karlson is getting traded, Hoffman is getting traded and they really have no defence without Karlson. You are staring at a rebuild Ottawa. If I'm Sakic, I'm not touching that pick form Ottawa, cause no matter what happens, its going to be super high. Honestly, what are the chances of Ottawa being good next year after they trade Karlsson and Hoffman? They very well could finish last place and earn the best chances at first overall. That is a very real possibility, and while I do think Karlsson is top 5 best defencemen in hockey, he's also approaching 30, how many years before he starts declining? Also Colorado is young and will want more young guys to support the young core.

I don't hate Ottawa, I'm not one of those Leafs fans. I'm more a hockey fan than a Leafs fan. However, I stand by my words, Ottawa is currently a mess, they have a lot of work to do before they'll be a good team again. If I'm Colorado I'm looking at that pick from Ottawa and licking my lips, its going to be top 10 no matter what and could possibly be better than 4th. Ottawa isn't bouncing back, especially with all this Karlsson/Hoffman drama.
