why would Carolina trade Fleury (former #7 overall pick) for a bag of middling prospects?

Hayden is appears to be starting NHL Dmen. Sorry, veteran leadership shouldn't cost 8m a year. A good centre might, and that may not be Thornton.

Bruh idk trying to think of something, didnt think it was that far off. Not heard a lot of talk around him.

I think you would have to overpay Thornton to get him to come. Obviously its a lot, but I would prefer taking a chance on a 1 year deal with Jumbo, when you have the cap space, instead of another UFA to a multi-year deal.

Your right, the Leafs have about 10m to spend on a short term UFA and certainly centre and RHD are in positions of need. Gee Leafs could actually sign Tavares long term, but would likely have to trade Nylander next summer.
