Theory:
Florida gets Max and the Hab's highest 2nd this year. If he doesn't resign, the 2019 2nd becomes a first. Worse case? Florida now has two second rounders and a top 5 goal scorer aching for a fresh start.

Habs now have 15th overall. They flip that to Edmonton for 10 OA if Kotkaniemi or a good LHD is available. Edmonton drops from 10 to 15 and gets their choice of any two of Jordie Benn, Daniel Carr, Shlemko or De La Rose. Oil now have a player that might be a year or two away from helping (which is likely what they're getting at 10) and an NHL ready D guy and and NHL ready forward - and in Carr, a big body who can score goals.

Habs get. . . centres. Lots and lots of centres.

Implicit in this is that the players each team wants still being available at the time the 9th overall selection is made. If the guy the Habs/Florida/Oil wants is gone, then this all goes to heck. It would have to come together at the last minute on the floor.

I think everyone wins.

Only way I see Tallon trading his 1st and Borgstrom is for the 3rd overall pick. Before Habs fans get their panties in a knot, I’m not saying that what is going to be acceptable just saying Tallon won’t give that up without great return and No Patches isn’t enough.

I like the idea with Florida and I think the value is pretty close with Montreal maybe adding a bit. Not sure if Florida wants to move Borgy.
The Edmonton deal is pretty bad value for the oil. To drop from 10 to 15 with a couple of depth roster players isnt enough really.

As an Oiler fan, no thanks. Last thing we need is another bottom pairing dman and a player that have stats that 1 mil free agents could produce without us having to drop in the draft.

I disagree. Patches is one of the top LW in the league while Borgstrom is still an relative unknown but with good potential. Borgy+10 is about Patches + high Mtl 2nd and high Chi 2nd. Value is pretty close imo but I think that Florida would want a prospect going back instead of Chi 2nd.

The Habs have a lot of wingers to spare, 2nds to spare, and imported LHD prospects to spare. If the deal is made or broken by adding anotherplayer- say Scherbak or Hudon instead of Carr - I'd be more than willing to listen.

I could live with that. And again, if Florida doesn't resign Patches, then they get the Habs 2019 first. So it's a 1st, a 2nd and a year of Patches at the min. Next year is supposed to be deep draft too.

10 for 15 and Juulsen + 3rd?

I think Juulsen may be too valuable for the Habs for trading 5 picks up. I think if Juulsen, the 15th and the 2nd for a 2018 EDM 1st, 2019 NYI 3rd and Strome would be more reasonable.

I stated what I stated because that was the asking price this past year for Patches and Dale turned it down. He isn’t giving anyone a Top prospect and 1st rounder unless he is blown out the water with the return and Patches, and 2nd and a conditional 2nd won’t do that. Not disagreeing that it’s fair just saying that Tallon probably won’t accept that.

I had thought -and please let me know if I am wrong - that the word was it was Patches for Trochek and a first and that the Habs hadn't thrown anything in to sweeten it. I was trying to make the deal a little sweeter to see if it could work. That's why it wasn't VT but HB and I added the 2nds.

From what I know it was both one offer for VT plus 15th for Patches and another for HB plus the 15th . Both obviously being rejected

By the way, Patches no longer has high value after last season's performance. If we calculated the points he would have produced in 82 games; it would have been 48 points or 0.58 PPG which is 138th among forwards. While goals would be a grand total of 22 or roughly 0.27 GPG which puts him at 118th in the league among forwards. Borgy finished runner up in the Hobey Baker Award votes, as a 20 year old sophmore against seniors. In general I believe Borgstrom is worth quite a bit while Pacioretty is worth a late 1st, early 2nd.

No worse case scenario Florida trades their best prospect, and mid teen pick for one year rental. Don't know why so many Montreal fans think this is remotely good for Florida.

We can argue the specifics of this one, but ultimately, Florida just missed the playoffs last year and for a chance to have an immediate impact player and a couple picks - or an impact player and another solid middle 6 guy - in return for a rookie who may or may not live up to the billing - is the reason why prospects get moved for impact players. I can understand why long time Leafs fans may not like this - it occasionally doesn't always work out for the Leafs - but it does happen and it makes sense. You can't make an omelet without breaking eggs. If Florida wants in to the big dance, they gotta make a move.
