The Edmonton trade might be wishful thinking. A 3rd rounder from a press box prospect and a slightly overpaid 7th dman might be a stretch, and I think Dallas might be slight overpayment. I agree both need to be moved, but I don't think we should really bank on the pair of them significantly bettering our assets. Perrault and Myers are both worth late firsts by themselves. Together you could definitely make the case they alone are worth a top 15 pick. Throwing in a point a game AHL prospect would be overpayment with that. Maybe Dallas sends back a goalie or 3rd round pick, or we don't send Petan over, and use him to grease the Chiarot trade.
Once you get past that, it's all creative differences.
Statsny's an option, but I think Roslovic might be a better option cap hit considered. Roslovic was 1.9P/G in his time with the Jets. He has an AHL career that is a spitting image of Claude Giroux and from the eye test he plays fast enough and is defensively responsible enough to have good chemistry with Laine and Ehlers AND be the defensively responsible linemate that they need. I think in the same way NIku has earned a shot with the Jets Roslovic has played himself into the top 6. The extra 5.4mill you save there could be used to retain salary on Myers at which point you need to seriously think about a acquiring a top 10 pick, or spend on any number of things, like a different UFA, or taking on a cap hit like Ennis or Letehra for one year in return for a pick or prospect.
Overall, me gusta
