WPG does this for the CAP relief which allows them to sign Stastny who is crucial to success in the next couple years, improving the LHD depth and for being able to draft one of Boqvist, Dobson, Bouchard, Hughes, Wahlstrom, Kotkaniem, or Tkachuk. WPG likely won't be drafting in the top 10 for a while more like 25-30 the next few years so they make moves this year in preparation to do so and have either a good young C or D to replace Buff/Stastny in a few years. They move the most pieces in this 3 way deal but also address key areas and give them the flexibility to sign Stastny while still maintaining their young core.
EDM gets a top line scoring winger for Mcdavid, a top 4 RHD, depth wingers/prospects at essentially a cost of Klefbom and a 1st. Gets better now while not sacrificing a lot of futures while addressing almost all their concerns
OTT in: Dano, Chiarot, Bear, 2019 1st, 2018 2nd
OTT out: Hoffman
OTT wants cheap contracts and is in rebuild mode. They covet young cheap players and picks which they get for 2 years of Hoffman. If they get this price they'd have to say yes?
LVK deal is to take Kulikov they get Comrie and pay a 6th (CAR)
Vesalainen starts in the minors for CAP reasons (bonuses mainly) but is first winger Call up.
Even if you believe Myers and Klefbom are equivalent, which I don’t (Myers is way better), no way Winnipeg is giving up 6 pieces, including 4 young players, a 1st and a 2nd for Edmonton’s 10OA. That’s craziness.

Myers is one year away from being UFA....Kelfbom has many years left at a good cap hit. Isn't an argument over who is "better" it's who has more value at the moment. Jets would way rather have several years of Klef at a shade over 4 mill than 1 year of Myers at 5.5. As a Jets fan I'd do that swap in a hearbeat

If you assume Myers is leaving, then I’d agree. I would try to sign him, but not sure what that would do to their Cap situation? If traded the Oilers could do the same. Even so the 6 extra pieces for 10OA is way too much.

Klefbom has 5 years left on his deal. The pieces are absolutely required to get that deal done without giving up any of Ehlers, Connor, Ros, Vesalainen etc.
Dano and Petan are never going to crack the Jets roster, Armia is expendable, Chiarot is also expendable especially with the addition of Klefbom at his term and Niku. Let's not forget the Jet also have Samberg and Stanley as LHD prospects that could be ready in a couple years where the RHD side of things isn't so rosy. Myers isn't getting re-signed because of Trouba long term contract so why not strengthen the left side and prep for the future? It's asset management and economics 101 especially when you have Poolman who is more than capable on that 3rd pair.

Yeah...Jets have ZERO room for Myers in their cap plans going forward. They will have +13 million tied up with Trouba and Buff as their top 2 RHD.
Am I missing something about the "6 extra pieces"?? Or did they revise the trade? I just see Armia + Petan + 2nd for 10OA....which I don't think is nearly enough value to get #10.

WPG out: Myers, Armia, Petan, Chiarot, Dano, 2019 1st, 2018 2nd
Dano, Chiarot, + 2019 1st also included but going to OTT to help fascilitate Hoffman to EDM

Look at the top discussion. In a 3-way, the only thing that really matters is what you give up versus what you net back. I figure Klefbom for Myers is a wash, favouring Edmonton (assuming Myers re-signs), then the remains are 10OA for Armia, Petan, Chiarot, Dano, 2019 1st, 2018 2nd.
