After Darcy Regier and the constant DO SOMETHING DARCY every Trade Deadline and Free Agency.. people saw GMTM as a breath of fresh air.. a no nonsense, **** you i'm going to make moves no matter what. After so little that was a huge boost of excitement.. But you are right.. we went from having a full and great farm system to basically nothing, he sold the farm for Kane and O'Reilly and then sold the veterans to tank for Eichel.. now i was all for the tank, so i'm not bitching at that point.. but for what GMTM did, Pegula had every reason to fire him.. and i was shocked at the time but it make perfect sense now.
Thank you for your kind comments. BTW my brother warned me about DATM all the way back in late 2014. When I told my friends I thought the 2016-2017 season was to be worse than the previous one they thought I was on drugs. I was expected more from this past season but thank goodness it worked out well.
Well you know Darcy only had Pegula who wanted him to do something, none of the previous owners cared anything about the club. John Rigas caused the club to go into bankruptcy, during bankruptcy, Darcy was more of a care taker. Tom Golisano fired all of the scouts, forced Regier to let Drury and Brier walk, then forced Darcy to match EDM offer sheet for Vanek, that would have been the time to rebuild, 2 automatic 1st round picks for the next 5 years. Once Pegula purchased the team Darcy was able to maneuver he got Ehrhoff, Regehr, Leopold etc to shore up the defense but then when Brad Richards decided to sign with NYR, it was over. We did not have a top center for Pomenville and Vanek. Darcy signed the next best player Leino. Then came the firing of Lindy "Not So Smooth" and the press went to town and blamed everything on Regier the signing of Leino, letting Brier and Drury walk, Pegula hated doing it but on the advice of Ted Black we fired Regier, brought in No Nothing Nolan and Pat LALALAMuray. I assure you if Darcy could have finished the rebuild, we would have finished last or close to last 2 more years and be in the playoff this year with a well stocked farm system. Instead of trading away picks he would have traded assets for picks. Can you think of any manager who made 4 worse trades in a 3 year period than DATM, McNabb and 2 seconds for 4th line player, a 2nd for Josh Gorges, a 1st for Lehner and Pysyk for Kulikov? He obviously over paid for Kane and Bogosian, since we were fortunate to get a first back for Kane. "I lost my love of the game" O'Reilly well we are in last place with him, we can be in last place without him. BTW, this is the short version of my rant. Good night now, I hope I can go to sleep after reliving this nightmare.
