I think the trade is just too big. People are always going to debate the value, but when you look at it from Edmonton's side, they are giving up their top pairing RHD, guy with a ton of potential in Puljujärvi, Yamamoto who is top prospect with Puljujarvi in the NHL, and a 2nd round pick for a different and more expesnive RHD (who obviously has a different skillset), a different, more established, more expensive winger (coming off a career year), and a goalie who would be an upgrade, but doesn't really fit a need for them. When you just look at the deal, it's not overly eye catching for EDM. Zucker is a decent fit because he's speedy and could keep up well with McDavid, but he is also going to be looking at 5+ mil a year after a career year. I think if MN swapped out Dumba for Spurgeon, it would make Edmonton stop and think through it.
I'm not sure if EDM would be able to do the deal with it's current cap just like this, much less attempting to sign Strome and Nurse after.
Again, I think it's just too big of a trade. Spurgeon would be a good fit in Edmonton. Zucker would be a good fit in Edmonton. Puljujarvi would be a fresh power forward that MN needs. It just looks weird with everyone included and I think a smaller deal makes sense.
