Description

I really like what the Oilers have done so far. I think the assistant coaches were a big part of the confidence issues and the special teams issues.
Glen Gulutzan: This is a very important hire. In my opinion he can have a good cop bad cop relationship with the players. Him being the bad cop and McLellan being the good. It provides the players with different motivators.
Manny Viveiros will bring a fresh prospective to the Oilers as a new up-and-coming coach that will try to bring "fast hockey" to the team.
Trent Yawney is an expert in developing a D-core to work as a team. He has done excellent work in Anaheim.
Paul Coffey is going to be a great addition to the coaching staff, he will be able to help work on special skills with the likes of Larsson, Nurse, Klefbom and Benning. In the future we will see him work with Bear, Jones, Dobson, Addison and Persson.

Now The 2018 Draft
10th OA: Noah Dobson RD
40th OA: Calen Addison RD
3rd round: Sampo Ranta LW
These three picks will help replenish an already bare prospect cupboard. With these three picks our prospect rankings will now be:
1.Puljujarvi
2.Yamamoto
3. Dobson
4. Addison
5. Bear
6. Jones
7. Marody
8. Benson
9. Skinner
10. Ranta

Now that looks a lot better than what it was a few months ago. This team might possibly make the playoffs next year but watch out in 2019-2020 where I predict that several prospects will make the jump to the NHL.

Signings:
Short and sweet. Grabner. simply because he is a great depth stop gap for up-and-coming prospects.

In conclusion Dobson and Addison fixes the RHD problem, Benson and Yamamoto help with winger depth and at this point Marody is also super close and Kassian is most likely on the way out.

I do like where he is going with the team and I agree we need to be good now but maybe a signing of mike green could be a good stopgap for a year till Dobson is ready

I agree but the only ones available are players like Faulk, Krug etc. They are all one truck ponies, great on the PP but are horrible defensively. If Dobson falls to 10OA he is projected as a top line two way defender. In my opinion what good is a defense man that gets 50-60 points a season but is a minus player?
