I see why Hawks fans don't want to, because the old core is still there. But I think that core is exactly what I said, old! Toews is still a top end #2C but he isn't that #1 guy anymore. Kane is still really good as well but has regressed in the last 2 years and without a talented guy like Panarin to play with I don't see him returning to his top 10 form. We all can see that Keith and Seabrook have slowed, that is rather obvious. This team is lacking what they had when they were winning cups and that is talented depth. A rebuild seems or retool seems like it would be in their best interest.

They have been on top for so long now that their fans are struggling to realize what I said above.

all the hawks need to is move some fat out, add some good pieces in. next year, if crawford is healthy all year, and the top 4D can compete with anyone in the league, that alone gets the hawks back in the playoffs. Toews i agree is declining, but kane is very much in his prime still. Keith has declined, but his cap hit is still solid, and is a 2nd pairing D on any team if not the 1st pair defenseman on some teams. seabrook does need to go. the hawks finally have cap room and pieces to move out that can turn them around. we just need to make those moves. last year was a year that nothing went right at all. now its time to rebound.

The problem with your scenario is that the only way to get good pieces in is through UFA because you don't have a whole lot worth trading for. Not saying it won't happen because I am sure CHI is a draw for UFA's but UFA's usually get overpaid and underperform so then in a couple years you are right back here again as a bubble team.

we have a few solid prospects, saad, anisimov, murphy, hossa is a good contract for a low budget team in need of hitting the cap floor, etc. the hawks situation isn't as bad as people see it as. yes they need crawford to be healthy, and that defense needs to improve a lot, edjsell will be our 3C, and maybe top 6 forward and this team is back to an easy playoff spot. plus the hawks have some cap room to bring in free agents. we will see this summer how active bowman is.
