I like the trades, but Holtby may not be the best idea. You don't want to have over 10 mil in cap hits just for your goalies especially with a young and upcoming core like Carolina has. Theyre going to need to sign these guys long term.

100% agree - Darling is prime buyout candidate next season once Nedeljkovic is ready for NHL.

GMBots says NO ROR for you!!!!!

GMBots states that is just not enough for ROR...... Nordstrom is a fine individual but as far as hockey goes a 26yo winger who puts up 10-15 points a season is not what the Sabres need.... we have plenty of them as it stands right now.... Bailey, Baptiste, Larsson, Girgensons, and so on and so on.....

So basically he is a throw in warm body to this trade..... therefore it is ROR for a top pair D with 2 years of term for ROR.....

I do not see any team willing to trade ROR straight up for Faulk..... go fish!!!!

Funny, i was about to say that's way more than the canes should be giving up for Faulk. I'm not sure if you're unfamiliar with how hard it is to get a top pairing d man. ROR as you call him isn't exactly elite.

Well 2 years of Faulk is a risk I am not worth taking on. The Sabres are at least 2 years away from contending..... they have a solid core of young Dmen.... Risto, Dahlin, Guhle, Pilut, Borgen, Nelson if they elect to sign Scandella & McCabe after 18/19 season add them to the mix.

Yes I do realize that a top pair D are a difficult commodity to obtain..... so are legit #2C that play the PP, PK, All Critical Defensive Zone Faceoffs & high number of minutes a game.....

You are not going to convince me that the Sabres should trade ROR for Faulk straight up which is what this deal being offered is...... ROR has more value to the development of my core offensive players than 2 years of Faulk.

Here is what I think would work for both sides:

Carolina receives from Buffalo:

ROR

for

Faulk
Kuokanen
2nd Round Pick in 2020

*If Faulk does not sign in Buffalo after the 2019/2020 season when his contract is up Carolina sends a 3rd Round pick in 2021 to Buffalo.

Five stars for trading for O'Reilly

I like this trade:
Created by: Caniac2000
CAR trades Faulk, J, Rask, V, Lorentz, S, Roy, N & 2019 1st to BUF for O'Reilly, R, Lehner, R & 2019 2nd
maybe not at the beginning of the season but soon:
Dahlin with Ristolainen
Scandella with Faulk
McCabe with Bogosian
That would be a great defense
Rask and Larsson as the 3rd/4th line centers would win many more face offs than they lose.

One has a great contract, one has a not so great contract. Guess which ones which.

I honestly think the Sabres would have to include at least a 2nd with ROR to get Faulk. Dude has off ice issues, locker room issues, is a streaky scorer, and has a long term contract that is probably a bit on the high side. Does he even have his drivers license back yet? Buffalo wants to move "ROR," ROR wants to move. I think Faulk for ROR and a 2nd is a really good deal for buffalo, borderline steal.

Well to answer your question.... yes he does have his drivers license as that case (for hitting a Tim Horton's with his pick up truck) was resolved...... I am not sure where you are getting your information from that he has locker room issues..... to the contrary he is actually a locker room positive.... never throws a teammate under the bus.... always shoulders the blame even when it is not his fault...... you listened to one interview at exit time where he spoke honestly about being tired of losing..... never once has he said he wants out of Buffalo..... in the most recent interview during the World Championships (he may have been Canada's best player in that tournament just saying) on TSN he emphatically said he has no desire to leave Buffalo he wants to be in Buffalo & he wants to be part of the solution to turning the franchise in the right direction.

I do not know the man personally so he can be saying the right thing at the right time.

There is not a snowballs chance in hell that the Sabres trade ROR and a 2nd Round pick for Faulk....... keep hitting whatever you are hitting we will agree to disagree.

With all due respect wagsnags - my proposed trade was ROR + 3rd for Faulk + 2nd and Nordstrom. I realize you didn't like Nordstrom - just a thought.

Mike with me you never have to state 'with all due respect' I am all good.... i realize your trade had other aspects.... I am sorry that your published team was sidetracked with my comments to and from Bcarlo.....

My point was simply that if GMBots thinks that Nordstrom is just another 3rd or 4th liner his organization is full of this type therefore that specific player has virtually no value when you are considering a deal...... so if you add him or take him out of the deal it has zero sum gain to the overall deal...... IMO ONLY I value Nordstrom as a non factor in the deal so then it comes down to ROR & 3rd Round Pick in 2019 vs Faulk and a 2nd Round Pick in 2019......

Let's look at the picks.... the Sabres in 18/19 probably finish anywhere from 25th to 31st..... Carolina probably finishes between 10th to 15th...... As a result Carolina's 2nd Round pick in 2019 draft will be #52 - #56 where as the Buffalo Sabres 3rd Round Pick in 2019 will be #62 to #67...... so the range of draft picks is min of 10 total picks to a max of 15 picks...... to me there is very little value between those 2 picks.

The last piece is to look at ROR vs Faulk..... both players have legitimate talent in their respective positions..... that is not up for debate.... you would not want ROR if he did not have value.... Faulk would not be sought after if he did not offer value to another club...... ROR's contract I do not see as a negative I see it as a positive due to an increasing salary cap and there is not a no trade clause to worry about if you want to move him at anytime..... In Faulk I will get his services for 2 years at the end of the 19/20 season he can walk..... if I deal for this type of player I have to believe that my organization and team can convince this player to sign back on..... there is the rub..... I do not think the Sabres are competitive this year (18/19) I think they are respectable and a potential playoff team in 19/20..... therefore I do not know how the Sabres convince Faulk to stay on.

I hope this clarifies where my thinking was in relation to your trade.
