Actually a very fair deal for both. As a Habs fan I'd love see this. Top 2 needs are true 1 and 2 C as well as a LHD.

Take away all the trash from the ROR trade and add a 1st in 2019 and Mete. Then there is a discussion.
Mike Richards trade: good young player, Top prospect 1st round pick. That’s the price.
Buffalo doesn’t have to move him so any team that does trade for him is going to overpay especially if they are in division.
Plus I don’t like AG’s contract situation. UFA the same year at Mittelstadt is RFA and the year before Dahlin. AG will probably light it up with eichel and then we might lose him to a cap crunch.

C'mon man, nobody will give you that kind of return for that kind of player especially if he has said that he doesn't want to play in Buf anymore.....

Except the 3 other times that he said he wants to play in Buffalo hahaha. Bobby Mac reported that if ROR was to move, that’s the asking price.
There’s no urgency to move him like Kane due to contract/term, so that’s what it is... sorry.

Five stars for wanting O'Reilly
That is a HUGE return for O'Reilly. I like to compare what DATM gave up to get O'Reilly to any current trade:
Galchenyuk, A. > Zadorov
2019 4th > nothing
2nd round 2018 (35th overall) > 31st OA 2015 (I am basing this on the strength of this draft and that Botterill will be be deciding who will be draftee)
Josh Brook < Compher
Cayden Primeau (0.931 save PTC in 34 games @ Northeastern University) >> Grigorenko
If Bergevin called Botterill with this trade, I cannot see Jason saying no.
Let's make a deal!! cheers

I know other Sabre CF GM's will disagree with me, that is a VERY GOOD return. Galchenyuk, A < O'Reilly but has a $2,600,000 lower cap hit. Primeau had a spectacular freshman season (dobberprospects gives him an "A" rating), the 2nd is a very good pick and Josh Brook a RHD was a 2nd round pick from last who had a + 48 rating in 45 games last year. I also compared this trade to the trade DATM made with Colorado to get O'Reilly. This is a no brainer for Botterill.

Looks interesting. What can you say about Josh Brook and Kayden Primeau, how promising are the players?

Brook is a RD and a 2nd rd pick from 2017, was injured in the WHL for the first half of the season. Was really good when he got back (32 pts in 45 games a a dman, and +48! He will be part of selection group of team Canada World Juniors next year, don’t know if he makes it though.

Primeau was a 2017 7th rd pick, which is ironic because Primeau was one of the best NCAA goalies this past season (.931SV% , 1.92 GAA)

This is a huge payment for MTL, definitely not scraps... but the players suggested Habs are deep at those positions (RD, G, LW), so it would make sense I guess. I personally would pass if I was MTL

Buf do actually need to trade one of their centre. Better be a veteran and high salary to help Buf's really long rebuild. MTL wants a centre, but doesn't have to trade Galchenuyk (see all wingers available in MTL)
AG has not reached his full potential, is younger and costs less than OReilly, who also took time to develop in Colorado. Galchenuyk had a 30 goal season as a centre, which OReilly never had. I still don't understand why MTL doesn't play AG 2nd centre anyway... Its really Pacioretty the next one to abandon ship.

Why does Buffalo have to trade one of their centers? Eichel ROR and Mittelstadt would make a dominant 3 down the middles.

Centers are worth more than wings, especially ones that have outproduced that wing pretty consistently, and have 100x the defensive game.

AND that center is under contract for 5 years vs 2 for AG.

Like I said, according to reporting from very reliable sources like Bobby, that’s the price it will take for ROR and you are well short of it.
