Description
Trade with Dallas: Spezza waives his NMC on the condition that Buffalo agrees to buy him out resulting in Spezza becoming a free agent. Dallas receives ROR adding much needed secondary scoring. Buffalo receives a young RD, something they lack in the system as well as Jake Oettinger.

Trade with San Jose: San Jose resigns Evander Kane

Trade with Minnesota: Minnesota frees cap space to resign Dumba/Zucker by sending Ennis back to Buffalo. Buffalo lessens the log-jam of LD they have now that they have Dahlin.

Resignings: Pretty standard deals. Bridge deal for Lehner that makes him easy to trade should Buffalo need/want to. Riley Nash is able to slot in at 2C to protect Mittelstadt from tougher matchups and will eventually drop to 3C by the end of his contract once Mittelstadt develops and matures. I don't believe Olofsson or Lawrence Pilut make the team this year as they will require one year to get accustomed to North American ice in the AHL. Most resignings of AHL players I was unsure about how much money they'd make so most contracts can be considered +/- 50000 depeding on the player.

Projection: Dahlin greatly improves our defense by a) being a franchise dman and b) GREATLY lessening the load on Scandella/Risto. I can see this team fighting for a wildcard spot but am not optimistic about making the playoffs considering the Atlantic has Tampa Bay, Boston, Toronto locked into the top 3 with Florida and Montreal (If they get their **** together) slightly ahead of us for this upcoming season. However, I think Buffalo is done rebuilding and being a basement team and will begin to frighten teams for years to come.

what a terrible trade for buffalo with dallas

we give dallas a 60 point, 2 way center still in his prime for:

paying spezza 3.5 million a year for 2 years not to play
honka, who still cant become a full timer 4 years after being drafted. you say hes the young RHD we dont have, but Ristolainen is 23, Casey Nelson is 25, Will Borgen is 21,
we get a goalie, yet you resign lehner and we have ullmark and just drafted a goalie in round 2 in 2017
3rd round pick which is worthless and we have to give up a 4th

Amazing that you put devante stephens on the roster, an ECHL defensemen, but not casey nelson. you play tyler ennis and zemgus girgensons top 6 minutes

Montreal would pay way more than this for a center like O'Reilly

I dont like the ror trade, i want at least a top 4 rhd or an overpayment at another position. Risto needs help, and although nelson and borgen have promise, its unlikely both kernels pop. And the need is immediate. Btw, i also hate ennis and want more than a third to take him back. I dont have much interest in a goalie coming back. We have prospects in ullmark and the kid we just drafted. He doesnt add any value to a deal where we move ror.

The Minnesota trade really doesn't make any sense for Buffalo. You don't just bail a team out of a cap space issue and get nothing significant in return. Ennis showed no improvement last season, so the change of scenery didn't do anything for him. Considering he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs, you're also definitely not making him a top 6 forward on this team. If Beaulieu becomes a player that needs to be moved because of a logjam, then you find a better deal with another team that can be equally beneficial.

The ROR trade doesn't make sense either, since you're just buying out part of the return, that once again seems to bail another team out of a contract situation while greatly benefiting them with a great player coming back their way. Buffalo doesn't need to move ROR, so if they do, it has to be for a significant return.
