Cowan could have picked up on waivers (he just physically can't play in the NHL anymore) and I can't see Boyes helping the Ducks. The Boston trade, sounds very reasonable if the Ducks are going for it.

The idea behind the Leafs trade would be to try and free up cap room for the offseason. Not to actually use them.

OK then. Then the trade could be made after the playoffs, so Maroon and Stoner could be used in the playoffs. Understand the need for cap space. What has happened to Maroon? He looked steady power forward in the last few years....and now?

His game hasn't really changed, but in the line roulette that was going on earlier this season he was moved off the line he played last year. And when everything stabilized he ended up settling on the 4th line and his minutes were cut quite a lot.
