The Leafs will trade Nylander a young RHD most likely.

capitals would probably have to add a solid draft pick or a solid prospect for toronto taking orpik, but this trade is actually not bad. i don't think this makes the capitals better though. you will have a huge hole in defense.

So the caps get the better forward, better defensemen, better draft pick and a nice salary dump to boot? Try again.

If you think Zaitsev is better than Niskanen you are absolutely delusional

Maybe a script needs put into this board where there can not be trades made between Washington and Toronto. Although, the deals put out over the last weeks do make me laugh so that is good...

Orpik at his $ has negative value. Adding him to a trade means that you need to add additional assets to offset.
Burakovsky at his $ has little value. Adding him to a trade really doesn't help much, a little, but not much.

Other bits of info...
A Caps 1st rounder is not worth as much as most other 1st rounders. A Caps 1st rounder is closer in value to a Montreal 2nd rounder than it is to a Carolina 1st rounder.
When doing "cap dumps" to low cap teams, you need to consider the actual salary more than the cap hit. If Arizona wanted to spend $5M on a $5M cap hit then they would sign a decent $5M player, not take someone else's trash. Those "cap dump" trades work when the cap hit is $5M but the salary is $2M.

How are you complaining about Orpik being in the trade when I took back Zaitsev and Martin who both have more term than Orpik left. Zaitsev has 6 years left and he is CLEARLY overpaid. So the Caps take two bad Toronto contracts while Toronto only takes one of Washington's
