The Unthinkable (If ARZ wins the lottery)

Description
There is one player in the world -- OK, maybe two players -- that ARZ gives up that first overall for. This doesn't hurt TOR at all. In fact, it gives them an Auston Matthews equivalent on the blueline. And room to Sign Tavares long term. Ozighanov is a bruising RHD with a cannon. He LOVES to hit. He and Zaddy will get along just fine. Dvorak and Domi raise the compete and snarl level and the issue of high skill passengers is now a thing of the past. Have at me.

Yeah I did. Couldn't find a damn thing. I did however find a bunch articles that show that Dahlin has better stats than both Karlsson and Hedman had at the same age or even younger. As well as some people who say his overall game reminds them of Lidstrom also.

All very nice things. All types of things I've heard before.

Anyways not getting at it with you bud, just saying I don't buy too much of the hype. He'll be good. That's pretty certain. How good? That will depend on what he does in the NHL. As good as Karlsson, Hedman and Lidstrom combined? I don't think that is even humanly possible.....

The quote was he embodies the best attributes of all three. That doesn't = as good as those three combined.

I think you put the wrong link?

Anyhoo found this:
“Karlsson isn't a good comparison to Dahlin because Dahlin is so much bigger and plays a more physical game,” one scout said. “No one is saying [Dahlin] is going to be Nick Lidstrom or Victor Hedman, but in terms of style, he's probably closer to those guys than Karlsson.”

Regardless, this is all because I wanted to sway you on the side of caution with trading Matthews, Nylander, Zaitzev and a 1st for Domi, Dvorak and Dahlin...... surely you can see the potential disaster that could happen if Dahlin is simply another OEL for example (which is very plausible and would still be a great addition).

If Dahlin comes in and scores 70+ points as a rookie dman and is playing 25 mins a night while holding off the other teams best players night in and night out, yeah maybe the trade could work but you don't know that yet.... What you do know is that Matthews at just age 19 has already scored 40 goals in a season. Something only 7 players have done in the history of the NHL with only one other player doing it in the year 2000+ era. Then add on a young Nylander who has put up 60 points in back to back seasons...

You are risking a lot on what the critics are projecting an unproven player could become. The analysts get it wrong from time to time too....

Nail Yakupov, - "An extremely skilled winger, Yakupov is the hottest thing to come out of Russia since Alex Ovechkin and is already drawing comparisons to the superstar."
Ryan Nugent Hopkins - "Excellent vision and hockey IQ. Gretzky-esque playmaking abilities. The most complete player in the draft."

Dude, let's circle back to this in 9 months and see who's right.

Lol Its not about being right. Its about risking a lot on a simple gamble. Why take that risk with such important pieces? This is high risk, high reward. Like high stakes roulette or something.

Anyways its all a fantasy thing. Just wanted to throw some realism into the argument.

Down with the whole realism thing. Let's start with understanding that calling Dahlin "high risk" is the opposite of realistic.

Clearly you misunderstood........... again.

Choosing Dahlin does not = high risk. Trading Matthews for Dahlin, (and everything else in the trade) is = High risk.

Matthews has proven he's a generational talent. Dahlin still has to prove he is one.

Anyways bud, im done with this pointless argument. Next your going to twist something around "generational" that has no bearing on the conversation just to not actually accept that you know what I am saying is fact.

You characterized the trading of Matthews for Dahlin's rights as "high risk". Based on what, if not the players and their respective talent levels? Regardless, he's a Sabre. Further discussion is moot.

Based on the fact that Dahlin hasn't played a game in the NHL yet but you are right, further discussion is moot. Like talking to a tree.
