Description
Flames get their RW of the future from a Pittsburgh team with a stacked forward core.
Pens get an NHL ready top prospect Dman from Calgary's stacked D prospect pool.

I made this trade much earlier in the year but I'm revisiting it now

Pass, I'll keep the near ppg dman over the ppg fwd of the same age. The Flames could do better for Andersson if they go down this path. If moving a dman, I wouldn't move a RHD until I know for sure Adam Fox will sign given the contract status of Hamonic expiring in a couple years.

I don't disagree with you but "near ppg dman" is a bit of stretch. A way I look at it is that the Flames could entice Fox to sign by opening up a top spot for him on the prospect depth chart by moving Andersson. But all your concerns are valid.

Just my opinion but I think Sprong well exceeds both Bracco and Leivo.

Congrats. Good for you. Come back to me in 3 years when Sprong still can't crack a lineup and Bracco is killing it for the Leafs

Only if you come back to me when the opposite happens haha. I sincerely didn't mean that as a slight against Bracco whatsoever, he looks like he could be a solid NHLer, take it easy.

Sprong is certainly better than brocco at this point in their careers. Wayyyyy better AHL numbers and wayyyyy better junior numbers aswell

As for the trade. Pens fan here. I think the trade fits both teams very well. I love Anderson and pens have a lot of good young forwards. From the flames perspective. They get a top end forward talent who was 2nd in the league in goals and 5th in the league in points as a rookie. Would look beautifully next to monny and gaudreau. Well made purposel. 5 stars

Wingers are a DIME a dozen! Why the **** do people love to trade these young blue chip prospects when you see the forwards don't work out. I've seen the oilers do so much dumb drafting. Forward every year. If Larsson brings in a player like Taylor hall! Hahaha. I agree with you

In this case, it's because the Flames are weak on right wing and have an abundance of defensive prospects. You're right though that defensemen are generally worth more.

Like I said, Daniel sprong was 2nd in goals 5th in points as a rookie. This kid has MAD potential. It’s not like they’re trading Anderson for some average winger prospect.

I'm not saying anything about who sprong is or what he could potentially bring to a team. In Calgary's case. I'd trade an established player for an established player. But I'm all about the draft/ development. Detroit and predators have been very good organizations bc they don't let their young promising players go when they can sell someone else on their team and bring in young talent. Like erat for forsberg. I've never understood rushing young players and trading away good prospects.

The biggest reason I did this deal is that Calgary does have a really strong prospect pool right now of Dmen. There was also some indication from Bill Peters in his intro press conference that he may try Brodie on the right side next year, thus further clogging it up. This could be the Flames chance to get a top level forward prospect they desperately need. But I do agree with your earlier statement that usually it doesn't make sense to trade blue chip D prospects, but I think CGY is in a position to do so if they desire.
