CBJ definitely need to dump Dubi's salary very soon, so this definitely is an option, but as pointed out above, it will make it difficult to re-sign several key players.

Why not go after Stastny, who is the 2nd top C on the FA market this summer.
In comparison to your trade for Getzlaf above, Stastny is about the same age, has same stats and would fit in very well in the 2nd C position. Maybe he would sign 2-3 years for $4M-$5M?
I doubt he will resign in the $7M-$8M range (I could be wrong...if NYR fail to sign a top FA asset early on, they tend to throw big money around on 07/01 for the 2nd prize/runner up on the market).
NYI would also want to replace Tavares if he bolts, and would probably spend quite a bit to get a top 2 C to fill the void.
