A few thoughts on your roster:
1. Not sure why CJ has all of a sudden fell in love with putting Vanek back on the Sabres team. We already have Vanek light with Samson..... slow skater high hockey IQ & plays a mean slot on the PP. I say no to Vanek and use the $3,000,000 elsewhere (such as take on a bad contract & /or having to pay Samson more than $3,750,000 a year);
2. I do not like the trade with Philly. We need swift skating puck moving D for Housely's system Gudas I do not think fits what Housley wants to do. Neuvirth is a firm pass. If you want rid of Lehner trade him outright for a #2 in 2019 or 2020;
3. I think there is a good chance that Asplund and Olofosson remain in Sweden. This will all depend on the makeup of the team in Rochester;
4. I like the Beagle, Wilson & Nelson signings;
5. I would like to see a purge of Larsson & Girgensons for draft picks. I believe a big problem with our team this past year was the bottom 6 were not very good;
In response to your post:
1. Vanek played an effective role in Vancouver. He excelled when playing and supporting the likes of Horvat and Boesser, something which would benefit say Casey Mittelstadt or CJ Smith/Danny O'Regan/Rodrigues etc. Secondly, I believe that's a fair bridge for Reinhart. You cant just show up and play for the last 40% of the season and expect an elite contract at the end (I admit the Sabres deal to Eichel gives them poor leverage).
2. Yes some swift skating puck moving D would be nice, BUT, Guhle, Antipin even Scandella can offer that, however this team is just to soft. If you want to call Gudas a bad D man because of a disciplinary record then go and work for Sportsnet and chat breeze for 2 hours a day. While he's no Zdeno Chara, he is tough as nails and in my opinion fun to watch - would be a great example to show some players what intensity is too. I do like Big Scary Robbie, but he has struggled in net a lot this year and killed momentum for the Sabres, his severe injuries persist, and tbh, I don't think he wants to come back either. Neuverth for me is a very consistant and at times a spectacular goalie, who also played one of the best games EVER in the playoffs against the Caps in 2016. Ideal to split games will Ullmark. I also think the Sabres should try to sign a third NHL ready goalie, as injuries will likely occur in net.
3. Olofsson has already left Frolunda in Sweden. Having led the SHL in goals, there isn't a lot more room for development in that league, he would be a great to addition to any NHL teams PP. Asplund's team in Sweden also expect him to leave for Buffalo this summer. With all of the competition on the bottom 6, there is a high chance Rochester remains a strong competitor. I think its a good fit.
4. Thanks
5. I feel Girgensons has been through so much crap with the Sabres its a waste to offload him now. I feel like he could excel on another team in the right circumstances however. (Who will give up a pick for Larsson at this stage?)
