Mr Goulet, What have you against curling? You're right, the Leafs have winger depth to move away from Komarov, and Bozak is becoming unnecessary especially if Tavares is signed.

But JT will get more in FA this summer if he leaves NY. If he wanted a discount, he’d obvi stay at home.

If Tavares were to sign for $8.5 million he'd do it with Tampa where there's no State taxes not in Canada where the taxes are high.

I've seen Bozak take 3 hard shifts in the last 2 years. Some wheels and defensive ability in the 3 hole would go a long way. Even Nylander if Tavares signs elsewhere.

Tavares is going to want WAY more than 8.5 million. He's going to want at least 10 million

Signing a big UFA like Tavares only works if cheap replacements for Bozak and Komarov are found. And Gardiner gets a cheap replacement in 2019. So while it possible there are a lot of other moves that have to be made. Plus the this post like so many do not show PF carryover, or that PF for 2018/19 should be included also, and to do that Horton's salary has to shown on the opening day roster.
So really this post, doesn't really address the realities of a true cap in 2018/19 and beyond, which is so common in these type of posts.
