This is a plan for a full reboot of the Habs front end. Working on the assumption that the one thing the Habs do well is scout and draft Dmen (Sergachev, Juulsen, Mete), the Habs will get at least one more decent prospect out of Staum, Brook, Walford and Fleury.
Cleaning house for prospects and picks up front, Habs would add Mike McLeod from NJ, along with a pick in the late teens, early 20s. If the season ended today, Habs would pick 6, 17 and 18. Those spots would produce any combination of solid forward prospects, including Kupari, Valeno, Wahlstrom, Kotkaniemi. Hayton, Ryan McLeod (Mike's bigger little brother) and Groulx.
If there's a defenceman who is irresistible, the Habs could grab him in any of those spots, but they need young, fast, scoring forwards. So, for argument's sake, let's go with Kupari, Valeno and McLeod.
The last part of this plan is to buy some overpriced UFA help for the next two years while these kids mature.
