Is this possible?

Description
Lindgren would be my goalie going forward.. doing prices job for $10M less. Talbot could help him transition as a starter. Montreal has several talented young goalies in the system including lindgren such as; McNiven (Former CHL goalie of the year), Primeau (Probably the best NCAA goalie prospect), and even hawkey and fucale. Nugent Hopkins would be a good two-way 2nd line C.

Go all in for Tavares.. They have over $3M more to offer and I doubt many teams would even match that $12.5M offer as is. Losing Prices contract makes this possible.

They have 4 2nd Round picks this year, maybe they win the lottery or maybe they can somehow trade up to get Dahlin. He is the guy they need solves all of their defensive issues.

1st Line C... check.
2nd Line C... check.
1st Pairing LD... check.

Maybe I'm crazy, and it would take somebody crazy to pull it off but why couldn't the habs do this?

That's such a nice lineup but why would a team that has a solid goalie want that contract of Price? EDM has a better chance of bailing you out than anyone else in the league. (Besides Garth Snow)

I'm really not sure.. the asking price isn't that high for price in this trade and I would think chiarelli would be thinking something like I have the best offensive player in the league it would be a good combo with the best goalie in the league (based in reputation I don't think price is anymore). I think a deal could get done based on Edmonton getting price and Montreal getting RNH but more parts might need to be involved.

The only way I see EDM making that move is with retained salary because almost half of the line up is taken up by Connor and Leon. So 31.5 mil a year between 3 isn't ideal. Id retain salary on Price or you'd have to take back Lucic
I could see an RNH, Lucic, Talbot, 1st rounder for Price, Hudon, Shaw

Boom deal.. Lucic would be a great fit in Montreal although they have way to many left handed forwards as it is so replacing Shaw with Lucic would leave the team with Gallagher as there only right handed forward.. which isn't very ideal

no one's taking Price's buyout proof contract until 2022 when 60-65% of it is paid off even if we retain its still buyout proof due to its structuring until 2022 taking every contender off the table as if he rick dipietro's Price still gets paid . the only way i see this moving is if we take on a cap like Seabrooks in CHI or Staal in NYR taking on a bad cap with Term to make it work before 2022 as outside those two no other Contender has the space to make a Price deal work

plus there is Zero logic in a Goalie for Goalie trade if you are building on Lindgren its counter productive and defeats the point .
with a CHI deal we dont have to see price often, get a decent RD so we can flip Petry after his NMC become a partial NTC after this year.

maybe do a bundle with Seabrook and AA for Price and Petry as you base and build around that.(AA was brought in to be a center and was a winger in their worst season in years so he's out long before Seabrook)

I think there is a lot wrong with this. I'm pretty confident Price will bounce back next year (or at least some point in his career). The trade you're suggesting is trading price just for the sake of trading him.

Zero logic in a goalie for goalie trade? ? ? ? ...... Lindgren hasn't even played 20 NHL games. You would be throwing him to the wolves next year. Any team that would want price isn't going to want their starting goalie still, the cap wouldn't work.

This deal with Edmonton offsets the cap hit of price.. but I think there would need to be a slight retention or another player coming back to the habs to make this work.

Edit: The buyout point is completely irrelevant, Price will be 34 by that time no one would want to buy him out before that anyways.

Also why are you calling Chicago and NYR contenders? Both of those teams missed the playoffs this year and NYR openly stated they were rebuilding!

No no no no no. No no no. Noooooooooo. Seabrook is a useless pylon with the worst contract in the league. This would be massively counter productive.
