These trades are pretty horrendous.
Hjalmarsson isn’t that great. Could get him alone for a 2nd with retention. Domi for Sheary straight up is plenty. You could get maroon for a 2nd easy. So no sense in giving up Sprong.
Olli Maatta is worth more than McDonagh even with the retention. Maatta is signed long term on a good deal. No sense in throwing him away plus a pick for McDonagh. Hagelin has been great lately. Why ruin something that is working? Sell him off in the offseason if need be to re-sign Hornqvist. We already traded Gus, why trade DeSmith too? The once deep goaltending we had would vanish. And it’s not enough for Kane. So why blow up the team that’s on fire?

Yup to all of that. Wow no picks among the 1st 3 rounds for 3 years? Not many GM's would do that and certainly not Jim Rutherford.
