So far this year, Gallagher has four more even strength points than Vrana, and he's four years older, and makes three million dollars more.

I don't think the Caps give up their toughest player, or the 9th highest scoring rookie defenseman this year in Bowey, just to take on Montreal's salary dump up front.

Unless Gallagher is better than Oshie at playing in front of the net on power plays, he doesn't make the first unit, so what the Caps are getting back is someone older with a lower ceiling in Vrana's spot.

This trade was ridiculous, but Karl Alzner is always welcome in Washington. Orpik might be a price the current coaching staff won't pay, but in the event of a first round exit from the playoffs, ask again in the summertime.
