Marner and Matthews will cost the leafs a lot. Not to mention the cost of maintaining the team around them, they simply cannot sign Tavares to that type of term. Tavares will likely hit FA and that in and of itself will drive up his cost.

Marleau was signed via UFA. You over pay for players when they are free agents. JvR said he would take a home town discount for the Leafs, so i wouldnt be surprised if he does. As for J.T, Stamkos was offered way way way more then 8.5 by the leafs. the taxes are alot higher in TOR, and the pressure is alot greater. He got 8.5 in TBL because hes close to the cup. J.T could get a discount if he want with the leafs by why would you when MTL is desperate and will pay 14 mill + for him?
