The Rangers have zero need for any goaltending prospects.

With that the NYR want either a top forward or top forward prospects. It's been said here also opting against picks and prefer drafted prospects or roster players.

Leivo has almost no value and the Rangers have no need for Sparks. There needs to be a lot more here than a later 1st/2nd and a couple of throw-ins.

Do they have a goalie in the system they like? I just know Hank isn't getting any younger. Thought the best goalie in the AHL was a good idea. They aren't getting a top fwd for him, Leivo is an NHL ready player who has upside, I realize his value on the market is low though. The Leafs have some good fwd prospects though so I'm sure something can be worked out on that front. Picks and prospects have to be the primary currency here. No team buying right now is looking to subtract from their roster.

I realize Leivo has little value on the block. (Unfortunate he's a good player.) I don't know the NYR system so if they have a goalie for the future then I guess sparks isn't necessary. The meat of my offer is the 1st and 2nd plus as I mentioned I think it takes a legit prospect to make the rangers happy. Perhaps the leafs would move a guy like Brown instead of Leivo, another player with room to improve still in Carrick? I think with more ice time and an offensive role he will thrive. I'm sure you'll call them "throw ins" too though. I don't pretend to know what the rangers needs are I'm just trying to work out a deal that seems reasonable. What do you think it takes?

Absolutely, they're very high in Georgiev who made his debut yesterday, but their special guy is Shestyorkin who I believe was rated the top goaltending prospect in the NHL. It was certainly a good thought, but not what the Rangers want.

Rangers have too many guys like Leivo who can score 30-40 points on a good year. McDonagh can absolutely get a top forward. (By top forward I don't mean Matthews, Benn, Malkin, etc.) I mean more along the lines of a consistent 60-65 or 30+ goal scorer. Teams will make the sacrifice if they feel it's the right move. If a team that has a lot of Offense wants Defense they'll swap. For example Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen. CBJ needed Defense and NSH needed offense. CBJ had plethora of Forwards and NSH had plethora of Defense. Just made sense for both sides

What you describe is Nylander or marner type. And there isn't a team in the league paying that price for him. You use the Seth Jones deal as a reference but both players in that deal were young entering their prime aged players. Mcdonagh is almost 30 and signed for 1 more year. Don't get me wrong, I like him. But we aren't buying a Seth Jones here.

What about Marleau? If it's not enough then add a Leivo/Carrick

I don't see why a team that's rebuilding would want Marleau. Carrick is a peice that could interest them.

Leafs were a rebuilding team when they signed him

They were in the build stage, NYR are not.

The Rangers aren’t tearing it all down the way the Leafs did, though. They have plenty of solid goaltending prospects in Shestyorkin, Georgiev, and Huska; and their core is already young, with Blue-chip center prospects and a boatload of potential bottom-four defensemen. Their main needs at this point are a top-pairing replacement for McDonagh (obviously easier said than done) and some more prospects at the wing. Clearly things could go poorly in terms of development, but the main need for NYR at this juncture is time for their young players to season. Tanking at this stage just expedites the process that’s been going on for a couple of years as the team has shifted toward a younger core. Carrick isn’t especially alluring alongside Skjei, Pionk, DeAngelo, and Rykov. Marleau has no place on the Rangers, unless he’s a cap-dump.
