Quoting: dragonlocks
I guess you're right... I just have a feeling that whoever grabs this kid is going to have a superstar in a couple of years. I didn't have much thought invested in it because moving that far up in the draft didn't seem possible, but when I read that article about Krug the pieces kind of fit together. Krug leaves a hole on defense for a new prospect, plus his trade value is really high, DeBrusk has a high trade value and is a hometown EDM kid, and Spoons was more than likely going to be used to move up in the draft anyways. It seemed like the perfect package. I guess you're right though, it's a little out there, and probably best to leave it alone. I'm sure we'll use Spooner to move up in the draft, but not that far up. Anyway, point taken I'll let that dog sleep.
Here's the thing with the draft, it's a HUGE crap shoot. I know that sounds cliche and everyone says it, but its true. What I mean by this is the following:
1. Teams don't give a crap about "expert" rankings
2. Each team/FO covets different skills (i.e. BOS likes good skating high IQ players)
3. Teams get a better feel for a prospect after interviewing and doing extensive research on them
4. Every teams "draft board" is different
Every year there is a guy who slides down the draft boards. Last year it was Timothy Liljegren who was considered a top 3 pick and the first d-man who should come off the board. In reality he went 17th and was the 5th d-man off the board. The year before was Jakob Chychrun who was considered the #1 overall pick to start his draft year. When the draft rolled around....he went 16th overall.
Am I saying that Boqvist is going to slide? no, but maybe he does. Maybe he slides far enough down the Boston jumps up a handful of spots to take him. I'm just not a fan of trading 3 quality assets from what could be a cup contender to draft him.
