Description
2018 deadline deals:

Sharp, Wingels and Kempny to WIN for B. Lemieux.
Hometown boy Sharp and his Stanley Cup rings helps the Jets with leadership in a young locker room.
Wingels is a gritty versatile winger who has a underrated shot. He fits in a bottom-6 as grinders Lowry, Hendricks and Tanev are on IR.
Kempny is depth D.

Franson & Bouma to PIT for Z. Aston-Reese
After Letang and Schultz, the Pens are short on RHD. Franson is a battle tested RHD with huge size and some offense in his game.
Bouma adds size and grit in an undersized lineup for the playoff run.

VAN Deal

It's a dump. Chi needs to clear Seabrook contract. Jokiharju is coming and we need that roster spot.
We accept in return the Eriksson contract. Pettersson, Gaudette and Dahlen will need roster spots if VAN wants to rebuild properly. VAN also receive Hartman, 2 young puck-moving D prospects and a 2nd rounder as sweeteners. We take Virtanen as it seems he do not fit in Green's plan and CHI needs size on the wings.

NOTES:
There is cap space left in this scenario because Hossa and Crow are on LTIR. Crawford's long term health doesn't bode well. Carter Hutton may also be a good signing instead of Kuemper. Vermette is signed because the Hawks sucks on the faceoff dot and Vermette is one of the best in the entire league in that regard..

Pens aren't giving up a good prospect for a borderline 4th liner and a guy they could've had for free on waivers if they wanted him.

The other ones don't look too bad. Not sure Vancouver wants to give up on Virtanen yet though.

That is alot of cap for carolina to take on, I don't think they would want Saad. But anisimov and another piece would make alot of sense. The pits deal is just bad, and the vancouver deal I could see if you guys retain salary on seabrook. No team is taking on that contract at full value.

What makes Aston-Reese a good prospect? He's 23 so not really that young as far as prospects go. Went undrafted. He did do well @ Northeastern, but that hasn't translated to much playing time in either the AHL or NHL. What makes him more interesting (good or bad) is that he chose PIT after college when he could have gone anywhere. PIT has a log jamb of young prospects. He's not getting the nod...at all. I can't see how PIT even thinks he's that good of a prospect if he doesn't get any playing time. It honestly feels like Ville Pokka (as a Hawks comparison) 1 year before everyone knew Pokka was a bust. I'm not at all cheering for him to be a bust I'm just curious what makes him a good prospect. As a Hawks fan I'd certainly do this because they really have nothing to lose.

      ***EDIT*** interesting Hurricanes trade.

Biggest reason is he looks like a late bloomer. He was a Hobey Baker finalist and leading scorer in NCAA last year. He struggled a little bit out of the gate in the AHL this year, but had 20 points in 20 games before getting called up to Pittsburgh. He's only been up for 2 games, but has looked good (and a bit unlucky not to have points yet). Coaches love his work ethic and two way game, and he's able to play any of the three forward positions.

I can definitely understand the hesitation with him being undrafted, but Sheary and Guentzel both were as well, and had to spend some time in the AHL learning the pro game before moving up to the NHL and making an impact. Aston Reece looks to be on the same path, but it's still too early to say for sure.
