The deal is essentially Kyle Connor, Nic Petan and a 1st for RNH. Mattais is the CAP space needed going back, and Hutch is basically a free tryout for EDM to get a back up next year (he's UFA)

EDM needs a scoring LWer who's got top line potential/skills and the speed to keep up with Connor McDavid. They also want him young, cheap, and NHL proven. Those are hard things to come by in todays NHL and the only real trade chip the Oilers have they're willing/able to part with is RNH. Jets were looking for an "impact" C and likely don't want to chase a rental. Giving up a bit more by moving Connor, allows them the flexibility to acquire that C.
EDM also gets Petan who has been lighting up the AHL this year and could be poised for a breakout if given an opportunity (which he'll never get with the Jets for some reason)
Hutchinson is a UFA shot in the dark for EDM who could get him signed and cheap. He's been excellent in the AHL this year with around a .950 sv% and just needs another shot. This is a show me trade for him which could benefit both Hutch and EDM but if it doesn't work out it's no loss.
The 1st is obvious. It's a deep draft and that currency can help the Oilers by either keeping that pick, or moving it also as they apparently want to contend again next year.
Mattais is a UFA but is a cap dump for the Jets.

EDM fans what do you think? It's basically moving a C for a top line LW who's got the speed and skill to play with McDavid.
