That would leave the Blues with very few Center options next year. Doubt we part with both.

STL is one of the teams with the most depth at C (Berglund, Schenn (not a natural C, but can play there), Brodziak, Thompson, Kyrou, etc.). I only made that trade based on recent rumours of STL's interest on Price and looked for two players that would fill MTL next year.

Even though I love Price, I think that we could get players that would be more useful as a whole in our team with that trade

MTL has a history of finding and training good goalies. I'm more worried about our ability to find our next Centers!

Sure, but Poehling is a more of a defensive C, I bet he won't be playing on our top 6 unless we have no other options! and Stastny and Thomas are better options for our offence IMO

I think for the Blues to trade for any goalie above 4 mil AAV they will have to include Jake Allen.

Also, as a Blues fan, I do not believe Doug Armstrong would move Stastny, or that Stastny would waive a full NTC to leave his hometown, and I'd imagine our GM will use futures and a middling roster player to upgrade this year's line-up because the Blues have too many core players at those top performance ages
.
That being said, if you'd like a more futures oriented proposal for Carey Price, I could do Thomas for sure, along with Allen for cap purposes, and appropriate futures to equalize values. I don't think it happens any other way for above reasons.

Lastly, you are in a great position to get Stastny for free during the off-season. I doubt STL retains him due to cap.

Since I do not really believe in our chances to sign Tavares if he tests the FA, I think that Stastny is the best alternative which is why a TDL sign and trade could give us an edge over all the other teams that will be looking to sign him. I agree with what you said about Allen, what do you think about :

STL
Price
Schlemko
AHL player like Lernoutt or Cracknell
2nd round pick 2018

MTL
Stastny
Thomas
Allen

But the problem is that the Blues aren't trading an extremely useful 2-way center at the TDL when they're expecting to make the playoffs. (At least I expect them to make the playoffs). You'd have to work on a contract in the summer... maybe if there's mutual interest the Habs could get Stastny's UFA rights before July 1 for a late round pick or something.

That's not True. Berglund is a 3c at best. Schenn is good and is actually a natural center. Thompson and Kyrou are wingers in the NHL. Brodziak is a 4c.
