Well, mostly because he has a hefty contract with long term. Also, he hasnt really lived up to expectations. Yes, it is early and he could bounce back at any time, but the pens have already invested big money in Crosby, Malkin, and Letang. Gotta spread out that 6.8 cap hit to a couple players.

A deal with the Ducks that included Maroon, Silverberg, and Vatanen would work too. It wouldnt be for just Kessel, but a deal could be struck.

"Uneducated" and "Blasphemous"? It's an opinion "how to manage the salary cap" and an opinion "on a players future value to his team". Just an opinion. Since we're giving opinion and thoughts, think Sqm918 is correct, but that's only my opinion too and I had years of watching Phil in Toronto.

No matter how bad Kessel has performed (and he has not performed really that badly, all things considered), there is no chance the management trades him this year. He was a blockbuster trade, big news acquistion, and to claim failure and move on from him already would be unacceptable to management.

Also, Kessel is on pace for around 28 goals and 30 assists... Not earth shattering, but certainly not bad by any means... And that's while underperforming.
