Your headline is about the D, so only the D will be discussed. I am glad you moved Alzner. I would have liked to see Schlemko, Benn and Petry moved as well. Schlemko is not a top four. Too many mental lapses in his D-zone coverage. Benn, I like him the most out of the four listed to be moved., but he is also not a top four D-man. He is a 5-6. But if you can get a D with some nasty to his game, hard hitter type. I would move Benn, if not I would keep him as a 5. Petry, is good offensively but his D is porous. He makes too many mistakes in his own end. Clague is going to be good, in about 2 to 3 years. Juulsen has just been voted the best 5 on 5 D-man in the entire AHL. His point production is not great but so far he is a good 6 D man. So, I agree with your changes with caveats.

Alzner has a 7 team no trade clause I think.. so there are 23 possible destinations for him

Agreed... my younger D for next year is detailed in the description actually. I think pairing Benn and Juulsen on a 3rd pair would be great match since he could be a good mentor for him. Same for Clague-Petry and Weber- mete

Thanks... Alzner OUT! (retain 1M if you need to!)
Keeping Petry is not bad... but not Schlemko No#3! a great no#5-6 spare tires!
Would WPG is willing to trade Roslovic for Shaw... It's a NO BRAINIER for MTL! Give him Schlemko for D depth playoff security with that :-)

The price to get Duchene was Girard, Bowers, Kamenev, and 1st, 2nd, & 3rd round picks. Many writers / "hockey experts" have said the asking price will be the same and that pacioretty is better and cheaper than Duchene (Although duchene is 2 years younger).

Clague and Girard are basically the same and the 2nd and the 2nd eliminate each other... this means Vilardi has to be worth Bowers, Kamenev, a 1st and a 3rd.. not to mention the unnecessary retention of half of pacioretty's salary. Vilardi just isn't worth that much.

I don't expect any team to give up as much as ottawa did for Duchene because that was ridiculous, but you aren't getting full value for pacioretty in this trade. I am pretty sure you are a habs fan, I know most people think fans overvalue their players all the time but it is just as easy to undervalue them. I would do Clague, Vilardi, & a 1st for Pacioretty, nothing less.

Also I would wait to trade Shaw.. his contract is front loaded and after one more year he would have more value to low budget teams like Carolina, Arizona, etc. Next season Shaw should be on the third line and Gallagher and Scherbak in the top 6.. don't trade Shaw until cap space is required. That is also a long time to retain salary.. would regret it 4 years from now.

Looking at the Ottawa season... no other GM's will do the same mistakes that they did for Duchesne... but I agree Pacc have a great value and his scoring touch is coming back... But NHL ready player+ High Prospect + 2019 1st rd if they resign him sounds fair! Clague, Vilardi + 1st.
For Shaw... we have other similar player in Gally & Carr so I would trade him for the right assets like a Young promising big C... no doubt!

Tkatchuk, Svechnikov, and Zadina are all wingers and projected to go top 5.. Dahlin would obviously be the best fit possible but if they don't win the lottery I could see them taking one of these prospects. They have Mete, Fleury, Brook, Juulsen and hypothetically Clague for D Prospects but aside from Scherbak not many good prospects on the wing right now.

Yes if the right offer comes along for Shaw you would trade him but I guess what I mean is you would probably get a lot of interest from Carolina or Arizona if you held on to Shaw one more year... Carolina is close to competing and they have lots of prospects to trade as well.

The are a few difference between Shaw and Gallagher + Carr though.. shaw can play center (which might be required if there are injuries) and he takes right handed faceoffs, Shaw can fight, and Shaw has won a cup before.. he is also great a guy in the locker room from what I hear which is important. Bergevin got him as a replacement to what they lost in prust no doubt and a back up to Gallagher who they really missed when he was hurt.

Sorry I get a little off topic sometimes the point still stands you are right.. if the right offer comes for Shaw you take it.

i think any one of those wingers mentioned would be amazing, because all 3 of them have size, can score and can win puck battles. if they add a winger like them to a line with drouin and galchenyuk, that would help a lot. but sad part is, none of those guys can play center. hopefully we can land a good center

I'm excited about Jake Evans, he is nominated for the Hobey Baker award (NCAA player of the year). Previous winners were Eichel, Vesey, and Butcher. He is apparently good on faceoffs and defensively as well.. he could probably use some time in the AHL but he could likely play in the NHL next year. I think he has more offensive upside than danault and a 2nd line of Galchenyuk-Evans-Scherbak could develop some good chemistry.

I wasn't really even aware of him until recently because he was a 7th Round Pick but he looks to be a huge steal.
