WPG says no. Sorry I'm a actually a fan of going after Grabner but he's not worth last years 1st rounder and another pick. He's a 3rd liner. Those go for a lot less. Change the pick to a 1st + Vesalainen and you might get Pacioretti from MTL based on what the rumored ask is.

A more realistic trade for Grabner would be Dano+3rd

How many of Grabner's goals have actually meant something? Many empty netters and garbage time goals. He's probably only worth a second round pick at this point and NYR would be better served to just keep him around for that.

I wasn't stupid enough to ask for a first as well as Ves. I'll admit the third round pick was a reach. Grabner is on pace to be a 30 goal scorer and many of his goals have been clutch goals.. even if some are empty netters, they put the game from 1 to two goals in the final 3 minutes (depending on when the goalie is pulled) which is huge because it almost guarantees a win. He is a 20-25/year goal scorer with a boost (5-10 goals) from empty netters. If you look at past history, depth players with worse stats have gone for more (eric staal went for a good prospect and two second rounders, hanzal went for an absurd amount, but usually the ask is a first rounder. assume there is (and probably will be) a bidding war for grabner if his name is put out there)

only 4 of 18 of grabner's goals were empty netters, so his goals are pretty legit. I do think asking for vesalainen would be a reach, but if the jets win the division and get a late 1st round pick, grabner for that 1st in the upcoming draft may seem fair. you have to remember that there's a market for depth scoring, and the kings are very desperate for a depth scoring forward as well. giving up a late 1st might be better than giving something like a 2nd and a 3rd, which may also be a fair deal. spanky227 is in the right here.

I'll be clear again...I like Grabner and would absolutely target him. I'd even give up a 1st to get him. He's not worth Vesalainen and a 3rd though and I stand by that. He may have 18 goals, but he's only got 4A's so that's pretty telling. Also the Jets have a younger version of him in Brandon Tanev he's just not as good and if the Jets are going to trade Vesalainen, it'll be in a deal where they package their 1st, Vesalainen, + "X" for 1.5 years of Pacioretty or Hoffman or Simmonds etc not for Grabner.
