I think u started out well sending bozak the other way. Bcuz bozak can fill the hole that bonino left. But letang is one of those elite D men and those are costly. You'll have to throw in a 1st and pick/prospect on top of that.

That asking price shouldn't matter however as you don't need a first in this year's draft. You need to fix ur D core and Letang does that big time.

I would not want to give up Dermott for Letang. No thanks. Not saying he's going to be him or better than him, but absolutely not. I don't really want Letang, like him as a player, but I don't see the fit on this team. If you're going to trade for him, has to be forwards. Not Dermott.

And if that is your ask there is a 0% chance Letang will be traded. No GM would contemplate anything close to that.

Nylander and Carrick would be necessity to even start this convo and I doubt that would be enough..

i wouldn't say "no" GM. EDM traded for a worse defenseman than Letang and gave up a winger that's better than Nylander for him...

So many amusing comments here...where to begin?

1. The offer to Letang is an insult and isn't even a starting point
2. Letang's cap hit and injury history will keep teams from overpaying for him
3. Wouldn't trade Dermott for Letang? Really? We're talking about adding a guy to the right side of the leafs' top pairing in exchange for someone who has equal odds of being a top 4 d-man as he does never making the show
4. I don't see the leafs moving either of Marner or Nylander for a veteran. The next tier is likely available (Hyman, Brown, Kapanen, Leivo) packaged with draft picks.
5. Let's not compare Edmonton's highly questionable moves as a standard for other GM's in the league. They made one lopsided trade a year and a half ago and no other GM has overpaid like that since so let's please stop assuming that they 'set the bar'

My thinking was Letang hasn't had the best track record for injuries lately. Sure when he is on point and at his best he is elite, hasn't been there this year so is this where he begins o slide? I don't know maybe.

Given these points I offered bozak who fills in where Bonino left a hole and Dermott who is a great defensive prospect. Sure maybe add a 1st and Bracco?

I wouldn't be adding lundergen or Kapanen to any of these trades so I wouldn't add Nylander or Carrick. I think when you start looking at there guys you a talking at top 10 D like Karlsson or Doghty.

Leafs take risk here as well. After 2019 they will be not be able to have guys with large contracts be on ltir with Mathews and marner contacts being upped. A long term Letang injury could really hurt them..
