Description

Always felt the Leafs and Oilers were good trade partners. Kapanen is exactly what the Oilers need (speed/pk'r/scorer/speed... why is he not up with the Leafs again?). And Carrick is a very capable RH Dman that softens the blow of losing Klefbom and add's strength to the right side for the Oil. Fehr is there to make up some of the cap, but honestly he is a capable 4th C himself so he may be more than just a 'throw in'.

No way the Oilers do that. Klef is a young, top 4 D who is on a good contract with lots of term left. Yes he's had a rough start to the year but hes worth a lot more than what you're offering.

Value wise the trade might be OK. But the Leafs don't need a LHD upgrade. Reilly, Gardiner and rookie Borgman are fine...and Dermot is on the way. And by trading Carrick, the Leafs lose one of their RHD, admitting he is now sitting as the 7the Dman. Kapanen is almost guaranteed a spot next year on the wing. If he's traded it's for a position of need.

Let's not forget the Leafs are signing Igor Ozhiganov next season too, so there's another RH. Oddly I'm not sure what position the Leafs are in need of... Center? but you're not getting a caliber center for wingers. I think Klefbom brings a dimension to the Leafs blueline that they lack, in a top 4 D man with offensive ability and reach

What????? The Leafs lack top 4 Dmen? Where do come up with this. Reilly, Gardiner, Zaitsev and Hainsey are top four, admitting Hainsey doesn't have much offensively ability. And rookie Borgman shows promise. Leafs are in no cap position to pay middling Dmen 4.6m. This year the Leafs don't really any help at any position really....just RHD. Next year, I would say centre and RHD.
