Description
I think this makes a much more dynamic and structured roster for Julien to make use of. Zem, Richardson and Pleky allows younger players to develop and allow them to grow in a competitive AHL environment, much like Vancouver are doing. This is far more effective than how Florida, Buffalo and Arizona are developing youth

Plekenec will not be getting more than a 1 year contract where he signs.

Well this is all Montreal has to play with. So you'd best drink it all in!

If Montreal don't sign him/he doesn't sign with Montreal the team will just get worse. He will want more than a year. Who can you replace him with that doesn't make the team worse of in 5 years.

Deslauries is there! Hudon is in the A. Its better to let future's develop together in a league like the AHL, like Vancouver are doing with their prospects, improves chemistry, competition, confidence etc.

No, you don't need to do that... If spending the valuable cap space to get useless players like Richardson and Sustr on long-term deals is all we have to play with then I'd much rather not play at all.

Plekanec is simply terrible offensively, we aren't losing a lot if we just let him walk. Having him play with Galchenyuk would kill Galchenyuk's production. A guy De La Rose can replace him, not defensively quite but offensively for sure. And we also have Poehling in the pipeline for future.

Hudon has already spent three full seasons in the A and has looked great in the big team this year, he's absolutely taken the step forward to play regularly in the NHL.

Galchenyuk's production is a Habs fan myth, although he is 'more' productive than Pleky, he pails in defensive ability (i.e, what a team like the Habs need). De La Rose and Poehling have no experience in winning NHL games, not to mention playoffs. If Hudon is good enough he can make it. Not signing free agent depth for this team will make them more like Buffalo, and that's a hole even Carey Price can't climb out of

You can't win if you can't make the moves that lead up to goals, which is an area of the game Galchenyuk is very good at and Plekanec is very bad at. Pleks has experience and I really admire his defensive play but he's not the same player he used to be. It's time to move on. And Hudon is good enough and has made it already, like come on, he's a very skilled player and just has had a bit of bad luck to not score like a legit 2nd liner. Lastly, there's nothing bad about signing vets but there are cheaper and better options out there than Richardson and Sustr (at least if that's the money they ask for). Richardson is a 4th liner and Sustr a #7 dman, you don't give them $7.5mil contracts.
