i would say more people undervalue him more than we defend him..
most have never even seen him skate a single shift. He has the pure scoring touch, Mike Lange who has covered hockey for 40 years said that he is as lethal as anybody he has seen come through. He definitely doesn't play defense which hurts, but people are seriously undervaluing him.
I've seen him a lot in the Q and in WBS. He's just a shot right right now and that's it. He has some other things going for him, powerful skating and some playmaking awareness, by he has a long way to go in terms of his play away from the puck still, in all three zones.
He may become a solid top 6 forward, he may not be a NHLer, but he's making a Guentzel like leap this season, he doesn't have to same rounded game Guentzel did.
Point is I see trades like Sprong and a Second rounder for guys like Patches or Galchenyuk and it's a joke. He's a B+, A- prospect right now, not some blue chip legit stud
Also Mike Lange is a Pens fan, I wouldn't trust his insights to a T. He is paid to get pens fans excited, not analyze the game
