The Rangers have lost 3 in a row and are on the road facing Florida then Tampa Bay in their next 2 games. It could be 5L in a row fast, given the way Florida looked against Boston Tuesday night and Tampa Bay's looked all season. This could be the last time they are in the playoff picture. A strong indicator of that is the fact they are 6th worst in the conference in goal differential with a (-8).

Namestnikov has 4 goals in 43 games played as a Ranger combining last year and this season. One would have to think that the Rangers expected far more production when they made the Blockbuster deal with Tampa Bay or else they would probably have opted to Trade only McDonagh in the deal dropping Namestnikov and JT Miller. With Namestnikov's lack of production it might not make sense for the Rangers to resign him in a year and a half which would make it smart for them to move him for something now if they aren't competing for a playoff spot.

Zach Senyshyn has good size and speed, but he hasn't developed that well. He may have too much pressure on him given who he was selected directly ahead of in the 2015 entry draft and how well they are doing now. He'll probably never live up to that pick and the best thing for him would be to move to a team where he had less pressure on him. He was a very good goal scorer in Juniors and has 7g in 23 AHL games so theres still some value there as a player who could potentially score some goals.

This trade could fit both teams needs as The Rangers get a pick + prospect for their rebuild / retool for an asset they likely don't keep long term if he continues producing at the current rate and Boston gets a current mid aged forward who could potentially help right now if he can find his game.
