The Canes are looking to bring in forwards and ship out a defenseman. While the value here isn’t too far off (in my opinion), the Canes do not benefit much from it and therefore are unlikely to take this deal

That’s certainly a step in the right direction but I doubt Rust would slot into their top 6 and I’m pretty sure they’re looking at replacements for Jeff Skinner

What about the Reaves and Perron trades? A single late first round pick isn't going to get you a star player, that's just a fact.
